2011 guard Briante Weber commits to VCU

Right from ODUs neck of the woods hopefully the year at Fork Union does him well

Looks like his team went to the VCU Elite camp

paying good dividends

From the rivals site...

Great Bridge (Chesapeake, VA) 6-foot-2 guard Briante Weber (pictured) was courted by the likes of Creighton, Marshall, VCU, Old Dominion and Virginia in recent months.

From ESPN Insider:

April, 2010: Briante is a lengthy guard that has active hands and gets his work done on the defensive end to lead to offensive opportunities. He plays a similar game to Rajon Rondo, not a shooter but will take it if given the look. He is looking to get a piece of paint and to score or dish. Quick first step, good finisher/handle with either hand. A two time defensive player of the year at Great Bridge. Weber is tough and athletic, and enjoys defending the opponents best perimeter player. He is working on his jumper.

April, 2009: Quick hands, quick feet and a flair for defense best describe Briante's game. Offensively he does a good job getting into scoring areas on the floor but has to be more aggressive and assertive with the ball. His perimeter shooting is solid but not his strength. In transition he handles well but does not create scoring opportunities enough via dribble moves in the open floor. Too much east and west. Defensively he is terrific on the ball. Briante uses agressive quick instincts and length to harass ball handlers. He deflects a lot of passes and prides himself tough in your chest defense. Improved body strength and a big summer will help.

He's just a 76 ESPN grade. I guess the coaches must see some potential in him.

I really hate the Sabre's message board format. It's pretty much unreadable.

I like this for 2 reasons. One, we get a local kid and two, Fletcher Arritt knows how to coach, but more importantly knows how to take kids and turn them into solid young men with character. If he is in fact going to prep at FUMA it will serve him well.

BRIANTE WEBER

Great Bridge
6-2 senior guard
First-team All-Eastern Region and Southeastern District Player of the Year
Averaged 17 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals and scored more than 1,000 career points
Drawing recruiting interest from Virginia Military, Old Dominion, Air Force, Army, Florida Atlantic and East Carolina

This from the Pilot...

Humble enough to "Prep"...Some in the past were not willing to do that. Says alot IMO.

Looks like 5 quality point and shooting guards in 2011 Theus, Daniels, Brandenburg, Pierre and Weber and then add Burgess and Carter and our bigs and we will be prepared to challenge anyone in the CAA or outside. Fantastic recruiting by our coaching staff. Future continues to be promising.

He is now listed as an 89 with a verbal to VCU if that makes you feel any better.

ESPN also added an extra inch to his height.

And you know Rivals will eventually make him a three-star recruit.
