Recruiting 2023 Offers

Interested to see if we have a learning period with Odom like we did with Merc on the recruiting trail.

Probably will. Most of the prospects he has made inroads with are out west. Maybe he can a few to the east coast, but will probably take a year or two to get back into the east coast swing.

Those are Blue Blood signee & Celebrity level NIL numbers

Edit:
Even at a height of 6'1"
But the blue bloods aren't onto him yet. Mostly low majors. Came out of Gwynn Park HS which is a basketball factory in PG County

I believe Vcu also offered this kid a while back. Stop pay attention but I had no idea that Odom was on him also. He looks real solid in highlights. Comfortable looking on the floor
Rhoades offered him last winter i believe. He is friends with Tobi. His team in France got knocked out of the playoffs yesterday. He is of British descent. He likes all my tweets about him & VCU on Twitter. VCU & Colorado State were recruiting him the hardest during the college season. He wants to play PG in college. Rhoades told me he was not in favor of that (thinking we would have Ace for 2 more seasons). He is 6-7/6-8 & handles the ball very well. He has a good all around game. Seems to be more of a finisher at the rim. Have not seen him shoot outside much. He was playing for a good pro team in France (Britain doesn’t really have pro hoops). I've been brushing up on my French so I can communicate with him in both English and French. VCU has essentially been recruiting him for over a year. I think the best comparison i can come up with is Mike Nice with PG skills. He is good enough to start right away. Already 19 years old with a couple of years playing against pros in Europe.

Good stuff! Thanks

Ty-Laur Johnson just decommitted from Memphis. I'm sure that ship has long sailed and he has another destination in mind, but we can dream.

I wonder if we are going to start see more and more decommits starting this time of year. Perhaps some team lost a couple of guys or they can't get the guys he really wants out of the portal so they figure out a good NIL deal and back channel some of the fall HS commits to see if they are interested.

I figured it was the easy availability of transfers. So, a kid commits to a school as a freshman months or even a year before his high school graduation. Then, the school brings in new transfers to fill up the roster, as we know schools are going to have to do every year. The freshman player then learns, after seeing the makeup of the team, that he’ll be fourth string. BOOM … decommit.

I swear I’m starting to wonder if it’s worth bothering with freshmen anymore unless they’re five star players. Let someone else develop them, and then bring them in as juniors when they decide to transfer. The way things are looking for VCU, it’s possible we only have one freshman this year, and he’s a redshirt freshman.
