This is perhaps a can of worms here, but I know it has been a hotbed of discussion for years in this program.
May I ask... have we had more or less or the generally the same (what could be considered serious/nonserious) injuries in the past two years than years before, and is our defense what would be considered (statistically?) better or worse or the same than in years past?

I don't think we've had more or less injuries overall, the few that occur just have more impact because it's key players that have been injured (Zeb, Max, Sean, etc.).

As for defense, I think we've more or less been consistent with previous years. Here's our defensive efficiency rankings on KenPom dating back to the start of the Shaka Smart era:

Ryan Odom:
2025: #24
2024: #40

Mike Rhoades (all these numbers are misleading as VCU's offense was never rated higher than #122 under Rhoades):
2023: #15
2022: #7
2021: #14 (shortened season due to COVID)
2020: #45 (season ended early due to COVID)
2019: #7
2018: #156

Will Wade:
2017: #41
2016: #24

Shaka Smart:
2015: #26
2014: #6
2013: #36 (VCU also achieved its highest-ever KenPom overall efficiency rating of #18)
2012: #23
2011: #78 (Final Four)
2010: #98 (CBI champions)

This year's VCU team is the most balanced team we've had since 2015-16 (Will Wade's first season) - #57 offense, #24 defense in 2024-25; #58 offense, #24 defense in 2015-16.
