Hey Rowdy, you should get kudos every day for your work on these data, but I usually forget. So, thanks going forward. I check this stuff out regularly. It's a big help

Not a problem.... I love sports especially VCU B-Ball... and it helps yall out. So its a win win.

Also really random sidenote.... at the VCU WBB game last night... I met one of our new ADs... Joe Manhertz (Senior Assoc. AD for Development) ... previously at St. Bona.

Seemed like a nice guy.

Did you ever think about becoming a sports statistician as a kid? You'd could have gotten props from Terry Sisisky at the end of every broadcast lol.

All the time honestly..... I kept stats for my High School Basketball team & kept the book for my High School Baseball team..... since physically I was not good enough to play above Rec-League or Pickup.

Basketball I could play good defense, but my offense was terrible. Pretty much same with Baseball.... tho I did make a pitcher yell "oh $#!t" one time on the mound and almost got tossed out of the game because the ump thought he said "bull $#!t" arguing balls and strikes... but then when he explained what he said, the ump was like why you saying "Oh $#!t"... big deal you walked him.... the pitcher replied.... "Sure he make suck at hitting, but Clearly you've never seen this kid, the few times he does get on base".... then Proceeded to steal 2nd & 3rd on him.... and then hurdled the catcher with my butt landing on home plate.... and had half the parents in shock, and the other half laughing their @$$es off at what I just did.

The Ump meanwhile was in complete shock the whole time.

That's my fame as an athlete as a kid lol.

But yeah.... I kept stats for my HS teams, and Even entered all the stats into an Excel spreadsheet and tallied up their season totals and averages, for both the players & coaches to look at to see what they needed to work on.

So yeah.... I def have thought about it..... Heck @rollins77 has even joked around saying hes gonna need me to knock out his post game notes after seeing some of my Stats threads

I also thoroughly enjoy following stats when someone's getting close, or has a chance to break a record.

For example.... all last year I was keeping track of one of our WBB players (Sarah Te-Biasu, now at Maryland for her final season) who was on the verge of cracking the Top 10 Scoring list for VCU WBB (and ended up 9th I believe after the season ended). Had she come back for her final season.... barring an injury, she would've passed Taya Robinson (3rd place- 1673 pts), Kelly Hoover (2nd- 1750 pts).... and if she had another great season like last year.... she could've had a shot at passing our all time scoring leader Courtney Hurt (2092 pts).

So I was doing the math of what she needed to average in order to pass them and such.

As a sports fan.... I love doing that kinda stuff.... especially for teams like VCU Basketball that are very important to me for many reasons beyond just the love of the sport itself.

Really sad in a way, and an object lesson for how quickly things can turn with the wrong coaching hire. I think of things like this whenever a fanbase starts calling for an otherwise-successful incumbent coach to be fired after a slow start or bad season
There is quite a bit to unpack here and some of it may be both uncomfortable and unpopular here. Nova basically had committed to Neptune the day he took the Fordham job and quite honestly possibly even before that. Jay probably left a couple of years before they expected and they went the predetermined route instead of the logical route. The Nova staff is Two former A10 head coaches who were not successful, two former Nova players, and a 76ers assistant. The last part is important because there are post and post about how former player_________should be the next VCU coach. I would like to see a former Ram as the head someday but I would like for one or two things to have occured. They have displayed success at a lower level as the head coach. or They have been an assistant HC for 5 seasons at P4 or the have been a successful assistant HC at VCU for 7 or more seasons. VCU is not and should not be a "starter" job for HC. Villanova made a horrendous decision or a very very high risk decision. Maybe the fact that the HC position at Nova is endowed allows them to not consider the financial aspect but if anyone associated with the decision is still at Nova, they should consider there next move carefully as Nova will not except replacing DePaul in the BE basement.

Side Note, Shulga looks like a super genius now and Brickus....not so much

having a VCU former player as our head coach would be one of the lowest factors I would consider. (IMHO)

we are a top elite mid major and should get the best coach possible for our situation - we pay GREAT for a top mid major and have a FANTASTIC fan base though not one with lots of deep pockets (lots of us blue collar fans) - our biggest factor holding us back whenever our next coaching search needs to occur will be financial resources for NIL and/or oontracts if necesary in the future

that said - we don't have to be a program that hires based upon hiring solely head coaching chops - (Capel, Grant and Smart all were super choices without head coaching chops nor VCU playing history) would take that 10+ year run anytime

I always chuckle at those terms Associate Head Coach or Assistant Head Coach titles - they mean nothing other than reasons for an assistant to say they probably got a raise justified - especially at public universities

FYI, Those three coaches support my position

Jeff Capel was a 5 year assistant at VCU wit a year prior at ODU. Jeff was slated to be the head coach before his predecessor left. Zero concern with him being head coach

Anthony Grant was an assistant at Florida for 10 years before becoming the head man at VCU and was on FLorida short list for Head Coach

Shaka Smart was a 10 year assistant with 3 years at the P4 level and Villa 7 experience.

I'd love if circumstances and opportunity aligned so that we end up with a former VCU player becoming head coach, but my one prerequisite for any such hiring decision is that we hire the best coach available. No thumbs on the scale for the VCU heritage. To me, that should play 0.00% in the decision. Best coach available, full stop.

Brickus got to get paid and stay in the Philly area where his kid is. Not too much losing in that scenario.
Realistically, Brickus did what was best for him and his kid so I don't fault him for going to Nova, even if they are a sinking ship right now (I have a feeling they're going to run into a buzzsaw when they play St. Joe's on Tuesday).

Thursday November 7th

I would love to see a former player as a future head coach but it obviously has to be the right scenario for it to happen. Having Rozz, Brad, Joey and Theus out there gaining experience is encouraging but I would think they are all probably many years away from being ready.

Absolutely, we have made it look a lot easier than it actually is over the years.
