Did you ever think about becoming a sports statistician as a kid? You'd could have gotten props from Terry Sisisky at the end of every broadcast lol.
All the time honestly..... I kept stats for my High School Basketball team & kept the book for my High School Baseball team..... since physically I was not good enough to play above Rec-League or Pickup.
Basketball I could play good defense, but my offense was terrible. Pretty much same with Baseball.... tho I did make a pitcher yell "oh $#!t" one time on the mound and almost got tossed out of the game because the ump thought he said "bull $#!t" arguing balls and strikes... but then when he explained what he said, the ump was like why you saying "Oh $#!t"... big deal you walked him.... the pitcher replied.... "Sure he make suck at hitting, but Clearly you've never seen this kid, the few times he does get on base".... then Proceeded to steal 2nd & 3rd on him.... and then hurdled the catcher with my butt landing on home plate.... and had half the parents in shock, and the other half laughing their @$$es off at what I just did.
The Ump meanwhile was in complete shock the whole time.
That's my fame as an athlete as a kid lol.
But yeah.... I kept stats for my HS teams, and Even entered all the stats into an Excel spreadsheet and tallied up their season totals and averages, for both the players & coaches to look at to see what they needed to work on.
So yeah.... I def have thought about it..... Heck
@rollins77 has even joked around saying hes gonna need me to knock out his post game notes after seeing some of my Stats threads
I also thoroughly enjoy following stats when someone's getting close, or has a chance to break a record.
For example.... all last year I was keeping track of one of our WBB players (Sarah Te-Biasu, now at Maryland for her final season) who was on the verge of cracking the Top 10 Scoring list for VCU WBB (and ended up 9th I believe after the season ended). Had she come back for her final season.... barring an injury, she would've passed Taya Robinson (3rd place- 1673 pts), Kelly Hoover (2nd- 1750 pts).... and if she had another great season like last year.... she could've had a shot at passing our all time scoring leader Courtney Hurt (2092 pts).
So I was doing the math of what she needed to average in order to pass them and such.
As a sports fan.... I love doing that kinda stuff.... especially for teams like VCU Basketball that are very important to me for many reasons beyond just the love of the sport itself.
