2024-25 Roster Thread

Here we go again. Same format as last year. Hopefully with a little less action the first week. Not making any assumptions about who may be returning until they have either indicated that they are coming back or the portal closes on May 1st. I will edit this post daily if things are changing to keep the most recent info at the top. With that being said let's have a great off season and put together a roster that can win the A10!

I can almost guarantee you that there will come a time, in a game, where his services will be needed.
If that's this season, with this roster then we must be in real trouble that game lol that's no shot at Martin but barring like 4-5 guys all fouling out, I don't see how you justify giving him more than garbage time minutes with the talent we have. And at that point, you might as well just redshirt him for HIS sake, so he can retain that year of eligibility

I completely agree that he should be redshirted.* I assume the plan is to play him at the 3 and 4. We're completely set at the 3 this year. I *suppose* there could be some concern at the 4, with Belle and Clark taking most of the minutes at that spot. But, the team also has the option of going with a guard-heavy lineup and/or sliding Fats down to the four. There are probably better options for this year than throwing Martin out there. He'll be much more needed next year.

I'm figuring his complete lack of minutes in four games signals that he won't be playing this year. There were rumblings of some kind of injury, but we've seen him warm up in uniform for every game.

*This is assuming that a redshirt won't lead to him leaving the team next year. That's always a possibility in this day and age. If there's any sense that the redshirt will lead to him not being at VCU next year, you may as well keep him active.

Fats has been getting very little playing time and I wonder if he chooses to enter the transfer portal next year
way too early to speculate - don't forget we lose through graduation/loss of eligibility Bam, Max, Zeb, Clark, and Russell (lots of minutes to fill in 25-26 )

but cannot disagree that the trend is not his friend!

I keep rooting for Fats to get more PT but clearly staff isn’t embracing that. They must have their reasons. Is it his D, intensity, or just too many better options also deserving PT?

You hear the screams when he comes out. It's a fact, he comes on the court and the place lights up loud... the fans just love fats. He's a fan favorite. They want the best for him. We're with him. I think people just wanna see him get to that point of putting it all together or as close to that as he can. And I'm not in the BDC during practices or a fly on the wall during team/coaches meetings but I'm betting the staff feels the same way. We all wanna see Fats story be a successful one. 🤞for him.

I'd say it has to do with his skillset and defense is the opportunity to earn it. As of right now, Fats really only brings scoring to the table, which we have no shortage of. If you look at every other guard/wing playing ahead of him, they have multiple dimensions to their game in addition to, or outside of, scoring.

Max: ballhandling & rebounding, Joe: defense, Phil: ballhandling & defense, Terrence: ballhandling, Brandon: ballhandling & defense, Clark: rebounding & versatility, Belle: defense & rebounding

If he can improve defensively, like we've seen from Joe, then he'll start getting more PT, but you can't afford to be one dimensional in the backcourt with the amount of talent we have this year

As this youtube interview of Zeb by RTD shows only 1 view posted an hour ago, I'm guessing it hasn't been posted on ramnation yet, so here it is... (darn good to have you back, Zeb)

As a as a person and a student at VCU I like Fermin but he remains very inconsistent thus far this year on our basketball team.
I think it speaks volumes that he is not in the game at crunch time. I guess we were playing match-ups

Its the stuff that doesn’t show up on the scoreboard and that nobody can see or that we don’t understand because basketball is such a complicated game that keeps him on the court

Heck anybody can score and rebound ;)
