What's this gotta do with "VCU Deserving better"?

As far as them selling out games.... So what? Up Until Tony Skinn became their HC.... their program had been awful since Jim L left.

Since Jim L left after the 2011 season.... They've been to a Total of 3 post seasons.... 2 CBI appearances including a CBI runner up in 2013 under Paul Hewitt (their last year in the CAA)... and 1 NIT appearance (last year under Tony Skinn). Between Jim L & Tony Skinn, they had a combined 4 20 win seasons.... Since Joining the A10 (13-14 season) They've had 5 seasons (including last year) where they finished in the Top 6 in the A10.

Pretty much until Skinn got there..... GMU was mediocre or garbage since Joining the A10.... so naturally they're not going to sell out games.

He11, VCU was good from 2007-2011 leading up to the Final 4..... we didn't start selling out games consistently until that Final 4 season.... and then after the Final 4 run everything exploded for us.

GMU doesn't have that history of success since Jim L left.... not yet anyway. But I believe Skinn is working on re-establishing that winning culture at Mason.

As far as the coaches leaving.... Maybe the SLU coach does.... but I'll be honest... I could see Skinn being more like a Shaka in that.... he's not gonna take the first offer that comes his way. The biggest reason I believe that, is his ties to the school. He knows what it's like as a player to take his team on a magical run in March as he was part of that 2006 Final 4 team. Now hes back here in his 3rd season as a coach, after nearly a decade as an Assistant at other schools.

With his history & ties to George Mason.... I don't see him bouncing for the first job offer that comes his way...... And especially if he starts beating VCU more & more, and if he starts winning the conference & getting GMU to the big dance.... I could see him turning into the next Jim L.... and staying at GMU for 10+ years. Now that doesn't mean he will.... but based on his connection to the school... I could honestly see it.
We deserve better than playing in a conference with LaSalle and Fordham. We still sell out our games. They are drawing 1,000 per game.

I want us to be in a conference with other schools that are invested in their basketball program as we are.

How about that?

USF with a strong showing over UAB on the road last night. I really hope they can turn it on and tear through the American to become a Q1 opponent for us… it’s long shot at this point but they look talented.
They've got a chance. They moved up to #66 in the NET today and are favored in their next few games (per KenPom). If they can flip at least one of the games they're not projected to win (and in fact, in all three games they're projected to lose, they're projected to lose by 1 point), they could definitely get into the top 50.

This is what mildly annoys me about the "we haven't beaten anyone" narrative. USF and Tech are both good wins and have a chance to be be really good wins by the end of the year. They aren't marquee wins like Vandy would've been, or Utah State/NC State could've been, but they aren't Rhode Island/Duquesne either.

And both of those coaches will be gone after this year if either of them get into the NCAA tournament. Book it.
Dont be so sure about that. It really depends what happens at Georgetown....as far as skinn is concerned.

Cooley is making between 5-6 million a year but he is in the hot seat. Skinn could make that move without moving from DC.

We shall see.

no doubt Georgetown fans are not happy with the team's performance under Cooley but hard to believe they will can him after year 3 of a 7-year contract - if like most ADs, they gave Ed a favorable buyout clause that probably says Georgetown can fire him without cause but has to pay the remaining value of the contract to Ed which after this year would be like $24 million maybe (don't think Georgetown admin DNA would like to do that)

Skinn as you know has been an assistant at Seton Hall, Ohio State and Md (yeah La Tech too) - so lots of landing spots that make sense if Skinn becomes that HOT mid major coach

I think we would both agree that a Big Ten job would be better than any Big East job not named Uconn or Villanova and my guess too is Penn State not likely to hire another a-10 head coach either.

any real intel on how much revenue share the Hoyas are allocating to men's basketball and how much NIL they have distributed this year or last (knowing Georgetown admin and those Jesuits, they probably are not telling anyone how much those pots are ) -

IMO, I think excellent Mid Major head coaches are going to focus more on going to situations/jobs with $7.5 to 10 million annually in those two pots of money - like Odom and less just taking a job to get a $1 million more in salary like MR did with PSU

go Rams and GMU unless they are playing us (I am a tony skinn fan as a coach )

Well... I hate to break it to you.... but no matter what conference we go to.... there's going to be schools like La Salle & Fordham. Schools that are at the bottom of the conference 90+% of the time. Schools that have crappy attendance. I could careless what other schools attendance are.

Georgetown is a basketball school right? I assume they invest in basketball prob more than any other sport.... where as that gotten them?

1 NCAA Tournament since 2015, 2 winning seasons in total since 2015.... sure their Average attendance is almost 5700 people (10th in the Big East)..... which would place them right around 3rd (with Saint Louis) behind Dayton & VCU in the A10..... but if the results aren't there on the court.... what does that matter? Congratulations they're investing in their program & getting absolutely no results from it.

Depaul's average attendance is 4300 this year.... worst in the Big East, would be 5th in the A10... but their program too is awful. Haven't made an NCAA Tournament since 2004 (when they were in C-USA)... Since Joining the Big East in 2005... they've been in over their heads. 2 overall winning seasons, 1 season where they finished .500 or better in conference (2006-07). And in 2023-24 they had 3 wins total & went 0-20 in the Big East.

So either... they don't invest in their Basketball program.... OR they do it very poorly.

We need to stop worrying about what every other team in the conference does, or worrying about getting to the Big East & worry about what we do.

We need to worry about OUR wins & losses, and what our AD & program are doing.... not what La Salle, Fordham or any other bottom feeder is doing.

You think all these years that Gonzaga has been in the WCC that Gonzaga or Mark Few give a rats @$$ about "how invested" schools like Pepperdine, Loyola Marymount, Portland, Seattle... etc. are in their basketball program? I highly doubt it.... all they care about is their own wins & losses. And that's all they need to care about.

We're literally only having this constant discussion because VCU can't find a way to win big games. VCU can't get the job done come NCAA Tournament time.... and despite being "the class of the A10" and every year nowadays the A10 is a "one bid league"..... thats why VCU went from 2015 to 2023 without winning a single A10 Tournament title in that span.

If VCU had truly dominated the A10 like Gonzaga does the WCC, and VCU actually won games in the NCAA Tournament like we did fairly regularly from 2007-2013.... we would not be having these constant discussions about our conference being @$$.... because we wouldn't be worried about it.... Cause VCU would be winning when it matters most.

But alas.... here we are.... having the same ole discussion about how bad our conference is.... because yet again VCU couldn't win its big games in OOC play, and already lost 2 games to 2 of the best teams in the A10.

Wasn't Skinn complaining about the lack of NIL dollars at Mason during the offseason?

Bona is getting boatraced at home on national TV. Yikes. They did lose to Fordham so 🤷‍♂️
Seeing SLU going on the road and hanging 58 on Bona in the first half for a 32-point lead really makes our squeaker of a win at home look bad

Conference play provides strange results every year. Rhody kicked ass in 2017-2018 when Hurley was coach and needed a buzzer beater vs the eventual 7-11 record 10 seed Duquesne team. Dayton received an NCAA 7 seed in 2015-2016 and was the 1 seed in the A10 Tournament and lost a road game to La Salle who finished in dead last. poop happens!

They really must hate LaSalle, lol
