2025-26 Roster Thread

This team has had plenty of practice time and actual games played to have this figured out by now.
Agree, at least in today’s college world. How many teams have we faced thus far with coaching and roster overall? NCStste and USF come to mind immediately. If RO had stayed, wouldn’t he have also recruited more front court depth? I’m also glad we have two new bigs and Belle earning more PT. We need them. I also wish Fermin the very best. In today’s game i have to find those differing emotions as compatible. It’s not always easy, even if necessary.

new mexico lost their whole roster and coaching staff from 24-25,

I suspect NMU learned from our game and got better from it as we did from them. By the time they played NMU they were no doubt figuring more stuff out and thus a wider margin of victory maybe?

This break would be a good time to reassess the roster. Cut the players that are at the end of the bench and look for a mid season replacements. Fermins spot could be filled by a G league player or an international player. Have immediate impact on the conference season.

and that would disrupt the entire chemistry of the team. Fermin likely will remain a Redshirt on the roster as a "no show" unless he makes a school move for the 2nd semester. My guess is he stays and graduates then does a grad year elsewhere and we all will wish him best. We have an empty roster spot already and no intentions to fill. The guys who are playing fewer minutes will stay prepared be it for this year or next. You never know what will occur, take a look at Nowell, Tillary, and Mitchell - they went from almost no minutes to big roles. Ward might shake off his rust and become a big factor in practice and grab those minutes back. If he does, having his weapon in our pocket only makes us better. Anyway, point is that bringing in a significant player right now into the top 8 rotation would have a negative ripple effect.

Good players rarely hurt a team and chemistry might actually get better

I hate to say it but I think you're right. If other teams are doing this, we should probably do the same, and you're also right that it could end up improving team chemistry if they find the right guy.

I get what you mean but it is a slippery slope. We would have probably cut Terrence Hill Jr last year.
In the world of NIL it can be hard to think for the future but the majority of players still tend to stay on a roster if they like the school. VCU has the depth to win the A10 and if it doesn’t click for some players then it might sort itself out in April like with Wheeler, Nelson, or Fatts.

Some NBA team or another would surely trade us someone in exchange for a player to be named later.

Why would anybody cut Hill…a blind man could see his skill level.

I mean, who would you cut from this team then? I feel like the people who aren’t contributing still have a lot of skill. I mean Ward was a 5 star who led the SEC in 3 pointers and he is currently riding the bench.
