2025-26 Roster Thread

We picked up too many players that thought they were going to be starters when we signed them.

Not sure how well it's working out for us when only 5 can start.

Everyone thinks they're gonna be a starter when they go into the portal & transfer somewhere else.... especially if they're transferring "down" from a P5 to a Mid Major.

I don't think that's the problem. The problem is just simply we missed on a couple guys.

Evans is very streaky. Some games hes really good.... other games he leaves a lot more to be desired.

Ward, no one truly knows whats going on with him.... but it clearly appears to be a Swing & miss by us.

Tracey started off the year decent.... but now seemingly plays less than 15 mins a game despite still being in the starting line up.

Fermin, stepped away from the team.... which a lot of people at the time, didn't see it as much of a loss.... (Boy were they wrong).

And then you factor in Djokovic who seems a little soft / dramatic at times.... despite being a really good player....

When you only go 7-9 deep on a regular basis.... and you have all the above issues going on... it's gonna be problematic.

I would hope every player we picked up thinks they are good enough to start.
Thinking you are going to start and adjusting to not starting. I think 2 or 3 are having issues with the adjustment

If you look at Tracey's stats last year, he faded as the season progressed. He started 16 out of Oregon's first 21 games and then didn't start again. He is also now at his 5th school in the collegiate ranks.

Both Evans and Mitchell were unknowns coming in regarding whether they could step up their game to the A-10 level coming from Bryant. Evans has only had more than 4 rebounds in a game once in the last 7 games and has only scored in double figures twice in the last 8 games. He's almost 5 points below his season ppg average last year at Bryant for all games this year and 7 points below his last year's average in A-10 games this year. Regarding Mitchell, he averaged 20.4 mpg, 8.5 ppg and 6.8 rpg last year at Bryant. His stats at VCU are 13.6 mpg, 4.3 ppg and 3.3 rpg. He is nowhere the player this year that he was last year.

Ward is clearly a big time miss at this point.

Dumont is definitely a work in progrees due to his extensive injuries prior to arriving at VCU.

Tillery is a freshman that is evidently not quite there yet. Most of his minutes this year came against horrible teams.

Fermin left the team.

Okafor is a walk-on that has been injured and not dressed this year.

That leaves Jennings, Hill, Jr., Belle, Lewis, Nowell and Djokovic. Four of those players are guards that sub in and out for each other.

This team is not nearly as deep as everyone thinks they are.

if posters remember , Tracey told Oregon at the end of the season he was coming back to play his last year at Oregon
Soon after he changed his mind (of course he is entitled to do that)

many at Oregon speculated it was about money and more specifically VCU offered a lot more money than many thought he was worth including Oregon and was why Tracey would even entertain dropping down in the caliber of basketball from Big 10 to A10

I guess that is what college basketball has become for quite a few athletes " show me the money". (rod tidwell aka Cuba Gooding jr from Jerry Maguire , quote ). that was a real good movie - another top quote from that flick was "You had me at Hello". (renee zellweger I believe) boy is this off topic!!

Lazar and Lewis may have been justified having that thought, but it’s our returning players keeping the wheels on this sputtering bus: Hill, Belle, Jennings (wish we had Fermin).

Fermin’s loss as a back up at the 5 along with Ward’s lack of production are significant reasons this team isn’t what many anticipated. Toss in playing average D in an improved league (over last year) with a new HC and we start to quantify why we feel the blues. This isn’t a quick fix. Making a leap will test this inexperienced HC and team. Regardless, I endured the Pollio years so these challenges are relative. Come on, Rams, play D with some passion! Let’s go!

Read it through on archive dot ph, nothing new here, just it's likely a personal or family matter, need to know and you dont need to know, and Ferm loves VCU and VCU loves Ferm.
yeah, whatever it is hoping the best for him. Would love to have him back, but he may have things much more important than basketball on his plate.
