Here we go again. Same format as last year. Posting this now as a place holder for when the portal or coaching carousel starts to heat up. Not making any assumptions about who may be returning until they have either indicated that they are coming back or the portal closes. Given what could be coming I am going to do the same with recruits as well. So we start with 0 and build from there as players are confirmed. I will edit this post daily if things are changing to keep the most recent info at the top. With that being said let's have a great off season and put together a roster that can win the A10 again!

Tillery is still on board so we are at 11 scholarship players. If Zeb gets a waiver that's 12. We would obviously take Luke back but I don't see us going over 13 players..

This puzzles me. Perhaps someone has an answer. For example, a player has two years of eligibility and agrees to $200,000. Will this amount cover both years or will receive another $200,000 for the second year? Will there be a performance clause in the agreement? What if he is injured? Does the player receive the payment over 12 months and is there tax withholding? If he decides to leave after the first year, will he have to return funds? I assume his agent is paid out of the fund. Does this include academic performance and is required to take classes in a degree program? I suspect much of this is negotiable.

I think I did this last year, just trying to sort the players while realizing that positionless basketball is all the rage. The question marks indicate that I figure the player COULD play that position, despite it not being their primary one. These are not in any particular order.

Let me know where I'm wrong.

Point guard:
Lewis
Nowell
Jennings

Shooting guard:
Jennings
Hill
Nowell?
Lewis?
Ward?

Wing:
Ward
Tracey
Tillery
Evans?
Mitchell?

Forward:
Mitchell
Evans
Tillery?

Center:
Fermin
Djokovic
Mitchell?

The thing that this shows me is that we do have a lack of experience at the PG and SG positions. However, we have LOTS of experience at the rest. I think a lot of our success may depend upon sophomore leaps from Jennings and Nowell, and perhaps to a lesser extent Hill.

It's a one year agreement which is why so many players jump in the portal every year. There is a push to go to 2-yr agreements but hasn't happened yet. Payments typically go over 10 months. The payments are guaranteed as long as the player is still in the program. The players are 1099 employees but this could change with House vs NCAA. Schools will most like start paying players directly instead of the collectives. Agents take a percentage from the players payments as their salary. To my knowledge there is no enforceable academic stipulations but I am sure this will evolve.

I believe Djokovic can play the 4 and 5 position. Also, I believe Tillery is a wing and not a forward, but maybe someone else can weigh in on that.

If Zeb comes back, that helps alleviate the lack of experience at the guard position.

I left Djokovic off at the 4 position due to Mitchell and Evans both playing there, but yes I probably should have put him there with a question mark. I agree that Tillery is most likely a wing and not a forward, but I wondered if he couldn't play forward in a pinch. And, yes, after doing this exercise I think it shows that we could really use Zeb for backcourt experience. We have a ton of first and second year guys back there.

All of that depends on the language of the contract. I believe most of these if not all are 1099. So taxes and all are the responsibility of the recipients

Saw something interesting.

VIII. NCAA Clarification on Roster Limits and the Treatment of Athletes

On April 3, 2025, the NCAA issued guidance to institutions regarding the new roster limits proposed

in the settlement and treatment of athletes who are preemptively cut from teams pending settlement

approval. The guidance reminded institutions that “the settlement provides that the new roster limits

cannot cause any current scholarship athlete to lose his or her scholarship.

”40 The guidance further

clarifies that any college athlete receiving any athletics aid who enters the transfer portal but

ultimately does not transfer must continue receiving aid.

Though institutions may be required to provide aid to athletes cut from rosters as part of scholarship

protections that took effect on August 1, 2024, those athletes will not be counted against the roster

limits provided the athletes do not participate in varsity athletics.

Our frontcourt was pushed around and bullied by BYU, hard to forget how bad that was. I know it's a new system now, but I hope we addressed that need for strength down low with these guys coming in.

If Belle returns, we would have 5 guys between 6'8" and 6'11" with a lot of muscle (or potential for muscle). I don't think Roose is going to let that happen again.

Interestingly, that list includes UMass (obviously no longer in the A10) but not St. Bonaventure (obviously still in the A10).

How about whether he can play or not?
