Recruiting 2029 Offers

Armando, I do believe, said VCU was going to be his choice until UNC(?) came along and offered up lots of money. Perhaps if we start now, we can pull together an NIL deal for the younger Bacot that keeps him here.

You're remembering correctly. I think there's a realistic chance we can land King Bacot (we've got a lot of time), but it will definitely be an uphill battle - you know that UNC and other P4 schools will be coming out swinging.

we need to be nationally ranked in 5 years if we want to land him

I take Mando's statement with a grain of salt. He would chosen VCU over UNC himself if he felt that way.

Instead, he dangled the prospect in front of VCU fans for 2 seasons and chose UNC anyway.

The UNC staff has a strong relationship with Bacot family. There's a high probability that King ends up a Tarheel.

He's an 8th grader

It wasn't a commitment, just a tweet.

No one is making anything conclusive out of it.

Just worth noting

This is simply a wise move(offer) on the part of Ryan. When you have a local prospect that may well turn into a phenom there is often value in being the first to offer. Like you stated he is only an 8th grader and there is a long way to go but VCU has as good a shot as many to be in the running when the time comes.

No harm in the offer and it lets Richmonders know we/VCU are looking, watching and wanting local talent.

2029? Is he in 8th grade? Well, it is good to get your foot in the door. By offering someone, you have the next five years to network with the coaches there as you have a reason to drop by and what his game......and other players as well as talk with the coaches.
