23-24 Opponent Tracking Thread

Both guys we are talking about are not world beaters but they will help McNeese
If Odom strategy has the above attitude.. to look only for "Name..Hot commodity" players and ignore the rest in the portal then we are going to screw the pooch on the portal season and end up in the bottom half of the A10 next season.

That was my opinion. They are good players but not something to get worked up about on our side of the world.

McNeese State has an endowment of $118 million. If it were in the A10, it would be the third smallest in the conference. Even Hobart College - an associate member of the A10 for men's lacrosse only - has 2.5 times more money. They absolutely do not have a bigger NIL bucket (and in fact, they are estimated to have a bit more than half as much NIL money as VCU does).
The endowment has nothing to do with NIL
All you need is a couple of fans /donors that want to pony up.

I guess we can look forward to Harvard cutting down the nets

Well, they're not ponying up much. Their athletic budget is $11 million, which includes football. $3.7 million comes from the state and the rest is from donors.

VCU, meanwhile, has an athletics budget of $45.7 million, and we don't have football.

Yet we lost to McNeese.
We can succeed without over reacting to this NIL hype. We are at a high water mark for this NIL hysteria. There is no doubt that the very best (top 5%) of D1 players will see there stock rise. But my guess is these mid majors valuations are going to fall significantly in the next few years. We do not need to be overpaying or driving up prices by over reacting to the hysteria.
We need to be steadfast, practice stoicism and find people that want to be here. And then figure out how to win with those people. It is doable.

This. Plus, I really wish people would quit freaking out. Yes, other schools are getting players. But the portal hasn't even freaking closed yet. If it's June 1st and we still haven't signed anyone, then it's time to panic.
If you honestly think people are going to sit back & watch as other teams, especially those in our conference, just go on a signing spree to replace key players while we haven't signed a single player... you're nuts.

Seeing as how this is the 2nd year in a row that we've potentially lost half our team to the portal/graduation & we're having to fill half the roster over again....... and with the current state of college basketball, this could be the case going forward for a while.....

You can't expect fans to just sit around and not start freaking out, getting upset, etc. when everyone else is making moves and we aren't yet.

Last year was one thing, with a coaching overhaul.... this year we have no coaching overhaul.

Since others wanna compare to Free Agency in pro sports... think of it like this.... Lets say your a Washington fan.... you got a lot of holes to fill, quite a few key players just became free agents...... The Eagles, Cowboys & Giants have all gone out & signed people.... some big names, or even some smaller names.... but signed players nonetheless... but Washington hasn't signed a single player... despite having "decent" cap space.

You telling me as a Washington fan, that hopes his team is going to compete, at the very least to make the playoffs.... that you're not going to start freaking out.... when other teams in your own division are signing players left and right making their team better.... while you can't sign a single guy, oh and several of your players from this past season are still in the Free Agency pool?

No one is saying we should go out & sign just any body. No one is suggesting that we take out the old van, drive around monroe park & throw out a couple benjamins to sign some guys.

But based on the programs facilities, its winning history over the last 2 decades, and its supposed "decent" NIL bank that it currently has..... we ain't signed a dang soul yet.

What are we doing? Waiting til May 2nd to make sure, none of our other 7 scholarship guys for next season (including Jennings) go into the portal after we sign somebody?

Cause that's kinda what it feels like.

We're passing on good shots to look for a great shot, and the shot clock hasn't hit 10 yet. Let the staff run their offense.

It may not have hit 10 as you say.... but it's definitely getting close to 10, as the portal has been open overall for over a month now, and its been open for us for a few days less than a month.

Once May 1st hits... the clock hits 10... last thing we wanna do is start our offense with 10 seconds left on the clock & end up having to chuck up a hail mary 3, or off balance, well defended jump shot thats not exactly a "good look" because we waited til almost the last second to get going.

Agreed. I think we're gonna get a good look, though.
