Players '25 Consensus 4* PF/C Silas Barksdale commits to VCU!

Woodside lost by 3 on a 3 from Allmond. Silas had 16 and 12 with 2:25 left. I don't know what his final line was
Quite the matchup stats for Big Silas! And Latrell ain't nothing to snort at, seen him last year and reminds me a lot of Justin Tillman. We have an offer in but so do a couple dozen high majors.

Tough to pull him in with Silas Luke Belle and Ferm on board. I was told by a friend at the game that Silas was the best player on the floor, and JM has Allmond and another 4* bound for Miss St

Woodside-Marshall was the top locally played high-school attraction since the mid '70's when Maggie Walker and Thomas Jefferson twice sold out the Coliseum ... TJ (Keith Valentine, Otis Fulton, Mike Perry, Monty Knight) won the state AAA title in '75, followed by Walker and Clyde Austin /Rudy Cunningham in '76.

There was no mistaking the main event, and it delivered in a big way.

The night’s final showdown pitted local powerhouse John Marshall against one of Tidewater’s top teams, Woodside. It was an opportunity for Woodside’s star player, Silas Barksdale, to showcase his talent in front of his future home fans, and he did just that, scoring 16 points as VCU’s coaching staff watched from the stands.

“It’s amazing to come through for my team,” Allmond said, adding his respect for Barksdale.

“Silas, he’s a beast, man. He’s gonna keep going and be among the best bigs at VCU. I’m looking forward to seeing him play there next year.”

BTW, Michael Phillips' Richmonder is a fantastic source for local news (including occasional sports articles). It is part of the growing trend of online local nonprofit news sources that don't depend on rapacious and politicized organizations like Sinclair. Free and HIGHLY recommended. Even though I don't live in RVA, I gave him a few bucks when he was getting it off the ground and I feel like it was money well spent

The problem I see with all 90% of VCU's perimeter scoring will be gone.
Maybe....
  • We have three players that are completely out of eligibility even in today's NCAA
    • Clark, Jackson and Shulga
  • Two players who may have one more year
    • Bam and Phil
    • Even with eligibility left
      • I expect Bam is done as he has a decent path to getting paid to play post college
      • Phil may be able to make more money by sticking around another year
  • In what I will call the "Modern Era" (Post McCarthy)
    • We have had only 5 double digit soph guards
      • EMay and Bones (Future NBA players)
      • BA, Melvin and Ace
        • If he works and is not home sick T.Hill could......put up Melvin like numbers in my opinion
          • That does not mean I would build a roster planning for him to be double digit scorer, just that it could happen
  • Finally, we have no idea who the staff will grab out of the portal and in the age of instant play, its hard to forecast these things
