A Message From New ODU Athletic Director Dr. Wood Selig

I am pleased to write to Monarch fans everywhere today and tell you how excited I am to be the athletic director at Old Dominion University and about the upcoming year.

The retirement of long time athletic director Dr. Jim Jarrett on June 30 has officially passed the torch to me today. I know I share your gratitude to Dr. Jarrett for the incredible successes of the ODU athletic program. His 40-year tenure at ODU will be remembered for many accomplishments, but also for the respect and integrity the program earned under his watch.

We remember Wood from his days here at VCU handling the season tickets, etc. He was one of the best people at handling the tickets in the 30+ years we have been getting them. I was suprised to see him rise as far as he has. He was pleasant and competent and I am sure his VCU resume part helped land him the position on Northhampton Blvd. The only athletic experience he looked capable of would be a coxswain for a rowing crew.

I met him at basketball dinner recently. We talked for a while and he has very fond memories of VCU. He will do a good job at ODU.
