League A10 Basketball: news and discourse around the league

Was thinking about this and not sure it’s been discussed, but the A-10 is in a very unique position. There’s going to be a clear divide at the top once the revenue sharing model officially rolls out. The power conferences are going to have plenty of money even with football to spend on basketball. However, is there any other conference that can theoretically match up to the A-10 as a conference in spending power? I think we as a conference could be in a unique tier of our own as a step below the power conferences and a step, maybe a step and a half, above any other mid major conference.

And based on that could that help us attract some other basketball only school from other conferences to further separate us?

I think the revenue-sharing model that's expected will absolutely further separate the A10 from lower mid-major conferences like the Sunbelt and Big South, if only because we don't have football and they do. I think it will cement us as the best non-power basketball conference out there by a reasonably wide margin, particularly given that the Mountain West (which has football as well) is being broken up by the new PAC. In short, I believe you're correct that we'll be in our own tier.

I think it's even safe to say that some of our programs (VCU, SLU, Loyola, and Dayton, in particular) will be spending more direct money than some middle teams in the Big East. The difference there is that many of those Big East schools have non-school revenue sources that we just can't match.

Regarding your final point -- it could attract other schools to the A10 in theory. I'm just not sure how many basketball-only schools would keep up with A10 spending and move the needle in terms of competition. We don't need to pick up another middle-of-the-road school. If the A10 expands, I want something more like a Loyola, who will quickly be a top program.

While I’m still an old dude, that’s when I started :)
No I’m the old dude graduating from VCU in 1975 before attending law school. Followed Ram BB for a long time and hoping for another run like in 2011. Knew Bernard Harris, Jessie Dark, Tom Motley, and others back in the 70s. Attended many games at the Franklin Street Gym and played many pick up games at the older section of Franklin Street. Facilities were dated and terrible. No better than most high school gyms.
