nothing in DC will improve our a10 brand - they got two a10 teams in the area that have NO interest from the larger market owned by the NBA< NHL,NFL MLB , Big East and big 10
I can fully appreciate your point about so much more to do but as a basketball fan I never go to a tournament to go see a museum etc (maybe a good restaurant of which Richmond area has some fine ones (not as many as DC though) but I recognize some fans only go to see their team play and then sightsee - I get that and richmond doesn't have the range of sights that NYC nor DC have
honestly (IMO) the market for a10 basketball tournament is the 15 teams in the tournament's fans and whomever the corporate sponsors give all those tickets to - tourney has been played at Barclays with a 5 borough population of 8-9 million and the attendance at Barclays is anemic compared to that population density not even including the 2 million just across the hudson in NJ within 30 minutes by subway
Richmond area attendance if a10 here would be comparable IMO to what they see at Barclays with probably 1/10th the population in our area
Richmond area can handle the demand for hotels from teams and fans - and what is best for the brand is having the two best teams playing Sunday for the championship in one of the two teams backyard - not a Duquense vs VCU in Barclays
ACC , Big East and so on can fill Barclays and MSG most every session - not really a good comparison when we talk about brands to compare the a10 tourney to any of the P6,/5 tournaments
last time in DC the avg attendance for the a-10 semifinals and finals session was 8,000 (capacity 20,300) - avg attendance for a Wizards game in 22-23 was 17,000 (41 games) (a-10 barclays attendance recently was a little less than DC tournament for the semi and final sessions)
go rams
ps I will attend in DC - got lots of family in suburbs
