A.J. English II was flooded with emails and correspondence from college basketball coaches the day after the King James Shooting Stars Classic ended in Akron, Ohio.

A tidal wave of interest poured in about the future plans of his son, A’Jen English. The 6-foot Appoquinimink High sophomore point guard put on an MVP-level performance when leading his 16-U D.C. Team Takeover to a title at the highly-scruitinized showcase of young talent that ran April 23-25

Among the interested programs were Virginia, Virginia Tech, James Madison, Virginia Commonwealth, Marquette and Xavier, among others.

AJ Sr. played at Va Union. He played in the NBA a few years. AJ Senior was about 6'4 + but could jump out of the gym. His game was similar to Willie Taylor's except AJ could dribble a much better.

If the son is athletically gifted as the father he should be a good one.

Hopefully that we were one of the first on him keeps him interested in the program. Sounds like he's blowing up though. I'm glad we are on these types of players lists though. Eventually we are gonna get one.

Albert Jay (AJ) English did something few college players can boast - he scored more than 1,000 points ... in ONE season. A.J. averaged 33.4 (top in NCAA-2) and had 1,001 points as a Union senior in 1990.

The elder A.J. (a 6-3 two-guard) was Delaware State Player of Year at Howard High in Wilmington and NCAA-2 Player of Year in '90 as a Panther. He was drafted in the second round (37th overall) by Washington.

English had 2,396 career points on Lombardy Street; Charles Oakley, by comparison, had 2,379.

Just to clarify, there are two English brothers that VCU is pursuing. AJ III and A'Jen. The former is a junior and the latter a sophomore. Both are being looked at heavily by Marquette and AJ's father (former NBA guard and Virginia Union standout) AJ English II said this:

“A.J. really likes Marquette,” A.J. II said. “He’s especially interested in the opportunity of playing in the Big East [Conference]. When the head coach makes the effort to visit your school, that says a lot about how interested he is.

“Personally, I’d like him to have an opportunity to step right into a program that he’ll be a big part of right from the start.”

A'jen, AJ III's younger brother seems to have just come on to the national scene with his stellar performance in Akron. I wonder if Marquette will offer them a package deal as the opportunity to play in the Big East would be hard to turn down and the elder English brother already has a MU offer in hand.
