For now on I'm only going to watch the first half of VCU basketball games when they play on the road.

Complacency kills even the best of teams.

We are not the best of teams. We're a good team in a mid-major conference. We need to stop thinking the game ends at halftime.

I was listening to the game on the radio. What happened with Larry fouling at the end of regulation. Was it really a foul? From the radio it seemed they were sure calling a lot of fouls on our guys. I didn't think they would call a foul at the end of game unless it was absolutely legitimate. Any insight?

Two Mason players went into half time with 4 fouls, another with 3. They didn't lose a single player fouling out until OT....you make the call on the refs.

Not entirely their fault. That makes me think we were playing a bit soft and not penetrating.

Why the heck we didn't take the ball inside in the second half is beyond me. With their bigs in foul trouble, it seems obvious that should have been our mindset. We got out-coached, sorta'. I just don't get it. How can we continue to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory on the road! For you Joey haters, GFU. He's about the only guy that showed up.

I kept wishing that we'd get Skeen down there more...but then when he did get it, he struggled to finish. Our bigs had a really bad 2nd half...both offensively and defensively.

a) because we have a center who spends more time on the perimeter than in the paint. A center who answers resistance by camping out on the perimeter rather than fighting for space in the paint.

b) because Skeen wasn't very effective most of the time when he got the ball in the post. He wasn't converting "and ones" and he was shaky from the free throw line.

c) because Kirill picked up early fouls.

d) because Gwynn is only 6'4".

Need anymore reasons?

what G-Man and Mistachill said.... we were trying to get the ball inside and FAILING. Larry or Skeen frequently seemed to have poor position many of the times they got the ball and did poorly trying to improve that position, there were fumbles, stripped balls, and muffed rebounds... when they did manage to get fouled, they didn't do a good job converting from the stripe. During these failed attempts to get it inside, we were losing ground on the scoreboard, to the point where the choice looked like continuing to try a failing tactic, or try something else... Joey, and to a lesser extent Ed, tried, but confidence and momentum had swung by that point. The thing is, the inside play is what got us the lead in the first place, but then it deserted us. Mason gets some of the credit, and we get some of the blame.

I'd like more reasons.

a) I cant argue with you. He spends all together too much time on the perimeter but doesn't see nearly enough touches when he's in the paint.

b) "He wasn't converting "and ones" and he was shaky from the free throw line."??? Give me a break. The man gets hacked every time he goes up. He plays exactly the way a big man should. His effectiveness wasn't due to turnovers. It was due to a lack of touches (see Larry for a similar argument)

c) Talk about ineffective. Kirill is almost as slow as a brick in mud. His hustle earns him his minutes but his lack of speed causes him to pick up dumb reaching fouls in addition to being out of place as he slides to defend the ball handler on ball screens

d) Come on, give me a break. That's a legit reason for our loss???

We didn't get the ball inside in the second half because quite frankly I think Jim Laranaga got tired of watching us score that way. So in the second half they basically just clogged the paint and dared us to find another way to beat them, which we couldn't quite do (I believe Larry had 2 second half points, TJ who started the game with 7 scored only 3 in the second half).

I just don't see how anyone can hype Skeen at this point... I'm sure he's busting his butt and all, but he's not been nearly the factor that was predicted... I hope he breaks out big soon
