I know we have a tendency to hype...maybe even over hype things around here (kinda my job in a way), but this is the second game now where he's dropped at least 16 points in a half, good for his 2nd 22+ point game of the season (a careeer high 23...and it's not even the number, it's how good he looks doing it).

Not saying he's the next Eric Maynor, but I honestly don't even remember Eric looking this talented as a freshman.

Does anyone have any stats or anything (Chris K where you at?) on a freshman guard putting together comparable performances, and/or does anyone else agree with me that this is the most exciting freshman guard we've seen in a while?

He's a lot faster than Dom. He is disruptive on defense and he rarely allows his man to beat him on the dribble, he handles the ball extremely well and is very quick. He drives well but needs to pick his spots. This kid has a ton of upside but is very good now.

I remember Mike Rhoades saying that when Rob got to 200 pounds he would be 'unstoppable'. He's pretty darn good now...but I agree completely. When he puts on some more muscle on that frame, he's going to be a handful. Heck he already is as it stands.

If you looked at the Georgia State bench they kept looking at RB like 'who the heck is this kid?'

Oh and GSU's Maynor is nothing close to our Maynor. ;)

Kinda sad in a way, but this kid is now our most exciting player-listen to the crowd when he is put in and taken out. Brandon, who obviously was ready to step in when Rozell went down but I'm not even sure coach thought he would play like this. It sure is nice to see Veal back too- would I love to see him drop 30 on ODU and the butterflies walking away saying "who dat was?"

He really is vcu70. I find myself bummed a bit when Coach takes him out. He's such a catalyst for good things happening on the floor. His energy is ridiculous. He has very quick hands and feet and is great moving without the ball already. He's got a lot of great tools and he's got a while to play yet. Exciting!

I don't think any of us could have predicted that he would come in and shine like he has. Makes the future that much more promising!

I posted weeks ago that if you want to roll the dice and go for a great season, pass the torch to Rob.

Well, we talked about Dom's 23 after the William & Mary game, but I'd have to look back and see if there are other comparable performances. Certainly no freshman in my six years has dumped 20-plus twice in a three-game span. I'll try to give a look in the next couple of days and see if there's anything that registers.

Just don't go too crazy. He's still a freshman. Don't let the Maynor-Jones, etc. talk get the best of you. Let his performance be the judge.

Darn - looks like Blaine already knows his number though ............
