is Bill Russell for VCU to win!!!! Russell wasn't a great offensive player..He just concentrated on Dominating the defensive end of the floor. He left the offense to his teammates. The result was the Celtics won 8 consective NBA Championships.

If sanders could take the same approach as Russell with his wingspan...we win the NCAA's..... I

Imagine Sanders doing this!!!

i wish larry played back then...there was no 3 point line!!!

You know that's kinda like sayin I wish b roz played like Ray Allen. Yeah sure that would be nice...but somewhat unrealistic. I mean u are talking about one of the greatest players of all time in Russell.

From NBA.com

Bill Russell was the cornerstone of the Boston Celtics' dynasty of the 1960s, an uncanny shotblocker who revolutionized NBA defensive concepts. A five-time NBA Most Valuable Player and a 12-time All-Star, the angular center amassed 21,620 career rebounds, an average of 22.5 per game and led the league in rebounding four times. He had 51 boards in one game, 49 in two others and a dozen consecutive seasons of 1,000 or more rebounds.

His many individual accolades were well deserved, but they were only products of Russell's philosophy of team play. His greatest accomplishment was bringing the storied Celtics 11 championships in his 13 seasons. Until the ascent of Michael Jordan in the 1980s, Russell was acclaimed by many as the greatest player in the history of the NBA.

** he averaged 15.1 PPG

Me thinks you missed the point. :D He doesn't need to be as good as Russell but he needs to play like Russell. With a 7'7" wingspan he is 5th in the league in rebounding and 2nd in shot blocking.

Against teams with strong post players, Larry is much better when the offense does not run through him, and he can focus on stick back dunks and getting open off of switches.

So all Larry needs to be is...more muscular

I don't think so, I just think he needs to play smarter/be utilized better. He is not an offensive scoring machine, if he has to touch the ball early in the possession. He is however great when he's roaming and cleaning up at the end of plays. Perhaps with another year to work on his back-to-the-basket game this could change, but not this year.

Toughness of Kirill and wingspan of Larry

And how many hall of famers did Russell play with? It's a little easier be unselfish when you're running with Sam Jones, KC Jones, Frank Ramsey, Bill Sharman, Bob Cousy, John Havilcek, Tom Heinshon, etc.

Chill -

His teammates were hall of famers because of him. The celtics played in the never would have one any championships without him. They didn't have anyone in the post who could take on Chamberlain.

the offense can run through skeen. all larry has to do is concentrate on being a defensive force like Russell.

8-)

trouble is joey rodriguez is not bob cousy, brad burgess is not sam jones

Answer to this question: Larry

The guy is having a great season. Problem is we need some other guys to step it up. Joey and Larry can't win every game for us. Larry can't block every shot, can't score every point, can't grab every rebound (currently leads our team in all three categories)...we need Skeen to find some D to go with that great offense of his, Rozzell and Brad to to be a more consistent, and our coaching staff to make better and quicker adjustments.

Duncanlamb - really? Cousy's not a hall famer without Russell? Havilcek is not a hall of famer without Russell? You realize Havilcek won two rings and was all-NBA without Russell, right?
