The answer to whether or not Trumaine Johnson is closing in on a decision can be classified as a solid maybe. A week after the San Diego transfer seemed pretty sure that it would come down to Iowa and Saint Mary’s, another school is in the picture.

“I guess that kind of changed a little bit,” Johnson said of being down to two schools. “I think it was on Friday that I got in contact with VCU. I talked with them and kind of liked what I heard.

“I talked to them again last night, and we were going to try to set up a visit sometime soon. I just want to go check them out and see if Saint Mary’s and Iowa are the only two that I’m that interested in or if VCU fits in there.”

“(VCU doesn’t) know if they want to wait and set up the visit later in June,” Johnson said, adding that VCU was unsure if they could get him in town before a dead period. “If that’s the case, then I’m not trying to wait to make the decision. I’m trying to get this whole thing over with.

Hope I didn't post too much.

“But if it turns out that we can set up a visit for this upcoming weekend, then I’ll go and check it out and probably make my decision coming back from that visit. But how it’s looking right now is it’s looking like they want to wait for a little bit for whatever reason. If that’s the case, then I’m going to make a decision this week. You’ll find out here today or (Tuesday) if that visit is set up or not.”

seems strange that Smart is recruiting him since he would have to sit next year anyway and then be a Jr.

wonder why he only played in 14 games?
Iowa and St Mary's are recruiting him...pretty good programs
USD was a .500 team, stat lines were kinda ugly
kinda random we pick up on a kid on the left coast who originally is from Tx...i like that by the way

He was suspended twice, once because he missed class twice in a week (8 games), second time for what he described as "problems and conflicts with the coaches." He also said the second suspension was for "things surrounding the team."

Says he not a bad kid: "I may dress in big clothes and wear chains, but I’m no where close to a bad kid at all."

All of this is posted in a couple of scout.com articles.

Here's another article: http://www3.signonsandiego.com/stories/ ... -wont-be-/

Johnson said that to his knowledge the “conduct unbecoming” suspension was for “missing a class twice,” and the most recent suspension was for a minor infraction of team rules.

Johnson, a 6-foot-2, 190-pounder from Kingwood High in Houston, started the last 15 games of the 2007-08 season for the Toreros at point guard. The Toreros went 12-3 over that period, winning the West Coast Conference Tournament championship and notching an NCAA Tournament victory over Connecticut that was the first-ever for a Division I program in San Diego.

The number one priority of our new staff is to sign a Prep Point Guard. It's highly unlikely that we will see a JUCO or transfer.

After the dead period we will have a couple of Prep PG's coming in for visits. These guys can really play. While anything can happen in the world of recruiting, given the fact that it is such a fluid enterprise, our staff is basically commited to 4-year guys!

On a positive note, ALL of our players will be coming back for summer school in early June.

Thanks Ramification, i'm hoping the focus is on 4 year guys. I like the idea of holding a scholarship and being very selective. No need to be in a huge rush. VCU has a great opportunity given what is coming back. Another PG with some size and speed would be nice given the fast attacking style Shaka seems to favor. This style also requires patience and character, its easy to lose heart when the press is not working early.

This guy looks like trouble-doesn't it say he contacted us. Coach is putting off his visit to hold that scholarship for a prep PG. We'll sign another before he gets to campus and will be a mute point.

Firstly, it's a moot point, not a mute one.

Secondly, any time a recruit speaks that way it can be read both ways. We very well may have contacted him.

Thirdly, why does he look like trouble? Because he missed a class twice? I don't think I ever had a single class at VCU I didn't miss at least twice, and I graduated Summa Cum-Laude.

Summa, the guy misses half the season for two different disciplinary reasons, both of which are his side of the story, not the coaches and he's not trouble? Has to sit out a year to transfer? We will find out how moot this is. Did I do better, I was a PE/science major who barely got through-lol
