Re: Anothy Lee -- Visiting VCU Soon!

Actually think its USC as in "Southern Cal" not "South Carolina." This link from July mentions he was trying to generate some West Coast interest from some reason: http://www.maxpreps.com/news/Yxqv9njCEd ... -event.htm

Anthony Lee, 6-10, F, Nike Team Florida: The soft-spoken Lee could use some muscle on his 6-10 frame, but he doesn’t play like a lightweight. He was assertive at making himself a target in the post and teamed with Okaro White and Wilfried Yeguete to form an inside trio that was too much for the New Mexico-based Danny Granger Hurricanes. Auburn, Florida State, George Mason, Miami, Mississippi State, Murray State, Tennessee, Temple and Virginia Commonwealth have all offered, according to Lee. UCLA is also showing interest. “I’m trying to get some looks from the West Coast, that’s why coach brought us over here,” Lee said. “A lot of good schools are looking at me and I’m just waiting to see what school is going to pop up.”

Re: Anothy Lee -- Visiting VCU Soon!

I assume Anthony left today without giving us a verbal. Haven't heard anything. Anyone have an update on the visit?

I didn't realize since I started thread I needed to edit original spelling of Anthony's name, which I did. Thanks for clarification on that.

Since VCU was Lee's only listed school with an official visit date, I was hoping for some fast, positive feedback regardling a verbal. Let's hope that's still the case and holiday weekend is just delaying communications. We can get clarifications on Tuesday.

Would have been nice to get the quick verbal as we did with Rob. VCU is a great school with a great basketball program but if he is setting up a couple of other looks (USC, etc.) you can't blame the kid for visiting a few other places and making sure he finds the right fit for himself. Hopefully we'll get some positive news soon. One things for sure... the VCU Rams will continue to roll with or without him so he better not wait too long or the havoc train will be pulling out of the station without him....hopefully with Michael Bradley and at least one more big on board.

lee has offers from several schools including Southern Cal. Here is a recent blurb
about him after a game at the main event tourney in vegas in late july.:

Also, playing well was highly regarded 6-9 power forward Anthony Lee, who told CalHiSports.com he has many offers, but his preferences are Virginia Commonwealth, Tulane, George Mason and South Carolina. The incoming 6-10 senior post at West Oaks Academy (Eustis, Fla.) finished with a double double -- 12 points and 11 rebounds. He also blocked three shots.

Since college coaches can't recruit in the spring any more its very difficult to see all the top kids. Why was Larry not more highly recruited ?? Same reason. Coaches are too busy during the high school season and the spring evaluation period is gone. that leaves 2 weeks in july to see everyone with only 3 coaches out recruting. Its virtually impossible. there are almost 350 division one schools and 13 players per school, so that's about 4,000 DI scholarships. The scouting services cover the top 200 maybe in each class. Some go a little deeper but not much. That leaves thousands of kids to try and see and evaluate in a very short span of time. that's why so many kids get overlooked and also because high school coaches have basically been taken out of the equation.

good post wavevcu. recruiting is a complex game, and while it's harder to get a "steal" in today's electronic environment, there are always going to be kids flying beneath the radar. Let's steal one!!

Congrats to VCU teams this weekend. Grt job, both on and off the field (recruiting)..the NCAA will not let me comment further on that one!!

Norwood, via twitter.

Norwood knows that true fans are following who's in for visits...a little hint that things went well with Anthony?

It has got to be a good sign that he brought it up at all. He must have a good feeling about the visit.

this sounds promising. I'll be checking back all day for an update. Go VCU :P

What are the NCAA regulations which prevent commentary on recruiting??

No official representative of the athletic department (Coaches, Directors, Graduate Assistants, Janitors, etc.) may comment on a specific recruit until a letter of intent has been signed. There is some gray area that allows them to make extremely vague remarks, but they have to be careful not to even drop so much as a hint as to which player they're referring to.
