"If Phillips follows his recent trend of hiring young, energetic coaches with Clemson ties, Shaka Smart could be a candidate.

Phillips declined to speculate on the maximum compensation Clemson could have paid Purnell, who made $1.3 million annually. But Clemson might be conservative in regard to coaching compensation after the athletics department operated at a $1 million loss last fiscal year.

Smart is a former Clemson assistant under Purnell, known for his energy and recruiting ability. He is reportedly on Clemson's short list. VCU athletics director Norwood Teague told the Post and Courier he has not been contacted."

Clemson said Brownell was to be introduced Tuesday at an afternoon news conference, where terms of the agreement were to be discussed.

"Brad Brownell is an unbelievable coach," Butler coach Brad Stevens said. "He has been a winner everywhere he has been. I am happy to see Brad go to a great school and a great program like Clemson."

Good luck Brad!

I noticed in the link article that UNCW still doesn't have a head coach. Seems pretty inexcusable given they showed Moss the door during the season. I'm sure Seahawk recruiting is going gangbusters.
