GET TO THE WHITE LINE!
No, this is not about the Grandmaster Flash song. I was helping Mike Voyack shoot a commercial today with Shaka Smart. I didn't do much, other than look like a plant. However, I noticed the same photo taped all over the locker room. Honestly, there were at least 20. It's a screen capture of a game from last season with the phrase, "Get to the white line!" written on it. To the untrained eye, it looks like just a pedestrian defensive series for VCU.
I asked Coach Smart what it was all about, and he basically said that at practice, they tape a white line down the middle of the floor, parallel to the sidelines. The idea is, when the ball is on one side of the floor, the defenders on the weak side need to get to the white line. Smart it allows the Rams to take more charges, an area of focus this season. In their exhibition with Virginia Union last week, VCU took five charges, three more than any game last season.
