Get your attention? GOOD. Now listen up. Rumor has it that the Athletic Department, along with the coaching staff are trying their hardest to get everything worked out so that we may tailgate at our football (soccer) games! Yes, I hear your moaning and groaning... ugh it's just soccer blah blah blah... but hey! It's a step in the right direction none-the-less. I think we should give it a try. The new coach from Akron is one intensely passionate guy and has big visions to energize the sparse crowd we have now and get more butts to the seats. His plan to do that is to make the game as exciting as possible!
His argument was to look at college football (the pigskin variety). Look how many people attend those games that don't give a crap about the actual game. Why do they go? For FUN! They tailgate, participate in "beverages" (yes, BYOB is being considered too), and just have a blast! He also realizes that winning helps, and he said he's gonna take care of that.
He admitted it wouldn't be an overnight success, but it will happen.
Another exciting aspect he offered was that he is going to get fans behind the opponents goalie to harass/distract/drown out the opponent's communication on defense. I think that would be pretty wild, to be down on the field behind the goal. You'll feel closer to the action and your voice will actually be heard rather than killed by the large gap from the stands, across the track, and then down to the field. Apparently the Athletic Department has purchased some vuvuzelas... not sure how I feel about that one yet! It might be cool for a game or two then get a little stale.. but hey, they're trying!! Coach even said he's not opposed to getting all the students that come free food and try to set up some sort of transportation to and from the games for those on campus.
So, in addition to comments for the above, I'll ask you, what would it take to get you to a football (soccer) game? (and be serious/realistic. no one is going to give you a million dollars or a new 55" LED TV... something that's feasible and makes sense!)
