time to get this party started...this ought to be entertainiing to say the least...

expect to see some guard heavy lineups during this game...if we decide to go uptempo we play their game. are we better at it than them...we should be....

In March, 1864, a heroic band of 280 VMI cadets, some as young as 16, set out on foot from Lexington to bolster the Confederate Army and fight the Union troops in the famous Battle of New Market.

Ten Cadets lost their lives, including Richmonder William Henry Cabell (of VCU Branch Cabell Library lineage). Another 45 were wounded.

Which brings us to December, 2010, and VMI's anticipated Wednesday invasion of Fort Smart?

When the pages of history are written and the ink has dried, which will turn out to be more devastating for the Fightin' Keydets, New Market or Havoc2?

Only the brave dare to look. Ushers have been advised: no one will be seated in the final 20 minutes.

So 'horn, should we expect a synopsis of either Battle of Bull Run (or Manassas) with the approach of the GMU game. Or how about a rerun of the fall of Atlanta before the GSU game. And what about a Battle of the Penisula recap before the next W&M game? I eagerly await our mini history lessons.

Shaka said Saturday we will want to slow it down and not play into their pace of play. We can't say that about many teams.

They may have a high octane offense but their competition has been suspect for the most part. The fighting Blue Hose of Presbyterian College beat them by 14 in Lexington on Saturday. Held VMI to 78 points. The Hose have a losing record.

VMI has a rising star in 6-9 DJ Covington out of Norfolk Academy. He is an outstanding recruit for the Keydets. Their PG Rodney Glasgow from Brooklyn is another fine young player...both are freshman. This certainly has a chance to be a very entertaining game, but the Rams should prevail in a big way. VMI plays zero defense. The Rams should score more points in the paint than any other game all year, partly to mostly, because of layups off transition.

As always with lesser heard team names, this chant is appropriate: "What's a Key-det?"

Edit: I just looked it up too. It's derived from southern drawl. And Drexel calls us rednecks.
