Ben Eblen is re-opening his recruitment

There are rumblings that Eblen may be visiting Charlotte this weekend. Apparently Holy Cross has expressed interest as well.

Are we still after him at this point or are we waiting to see what happens with his other visits first?

Another point guard we were connected to is off the board, Martavious Irving.

Sounds like it might be G.J. or Bust

In other news, Rico Pickett who was a JUCO guard some people were suggesting might fit a need at VCU, has committed to play Manhattan in the MAAC after getting offers from a host of SEC and Big East schools. Nice to see the little guys get one every once in a while! :)

We could run the ole' pickett fence at 'em if Rico comes.

In hindsight, this worked out pretty well for us.

Was bringing up this 4 year old thread for that statement really necessary? I mean based on his history & ours since he decided to go to bama... I think it's only obvious that we got the better end of the situation.

My take on @Jwetzel 's post wasn't that he was gloating, but calling attention to a convoluted story about past recruiting. I'll wager that many newer posters are unaware of it. There are a number of lessons to be learned from it, not the least @TampaKAP's viewpoint.

Yeah, it was thought to be a big lost when he reopened his recruitment. No matter how highly rated these guys are you really never know about them until they start actually playing.

We seem to have to relearn that lesson almost every year.

Agreed. Nothing wrong with a little historical context and perspective, especially since many are so high on our incoming freshman (myself included). It's especially great for newer fans to read.

Always interesting to look back on decisions made by all parties that both hurt and helped our program in the end.

I agree.

Other examples are J Mandeldove (sp) , and Carl Hall. In Mandeldove case his not coming set us back a step initially, and was a hoid basketball decision for him. While Hall turned out pretty good on his end, and he most likely would have propelled us into an addional Sweet 16 had he honored his committed to VCU. That is if Hall's arrival had no effect on Juvonte's signing. If so, its a wash.

Two others Henry UNCC (could have helped all parties involved, we got Teddy to leave early, imagine Henry and Bri in tandem Defensively ) , and Wilson (may have helped, we got Jared) . Also, Jarreau not much but injury at UW
