Love seeing what you all think about restaurants...now how about Richmond bars? For myself, gimme... (in no particular order)
1. Penny Lane - Don't get down there as much as i'd like because frankly...I don't drink and drive, or ride my bike for that kind of distance drunk at 2 AM (although it has happened once or twice). Cozy pub, great atmosphere, love going there for some soccer, few pints of Smithwick's, curry fries, and darts.
2. Ipanema - Also very cozy (I love a good basement bar). Really good vegetarian food (and I'm not veg..the stuff is very good for us omnivores).. Good selection of beer, not that I'm lookin (love you Cindy..if you're reading this) but there are always a couple cute girls around...for my friends. Love grabbin a booth earlier then drinking and playing some spades all night with a couple 'o friends.
3. Avalon - 1) I can walk there in under 10 minutes..so that's a plus...2) good mixed crowd (not too many hipsters..not too many meet heads..etc)..they also have very good food if you are into eating when you drink. Just kind of a nice place to call headquarters for the night and move around to other bars (Bamboo, Helens...Starlight or 3 Monkey's if you are into that as well)
4. Bamboo - Similar to all the reasons I like Avalon...but it's more "chill"...less of a meet market. Very comfortable Fan bar that's been around forever. They also seem to be open later than every other bar... check +
5. Davis and Main - Perhaps more of a restaurant...but a great place to go drink scotch with some friends. My buddy Daniel tends the bar...and he's one of the best in Richmond...really knows his scotch. More of a quiet bar to go drink hard drinks and listen to Sinatra...love it.
