What do you guys think was the biggest factor that helped us beat OU?
Home Court Advantage
Rebounding the Ball
3 Point Shooting
Good Defense
Shutting Down Willie Warren (even tho he pretty much shut himself down w/ the cramps)

Obviously they were all key reasons that we beat OU, but what do you think the biggest factor was?

Scoring 82 points to their 69.

Seriously though we did a lot of things well that all lead to the W. Some of those things enabled us to do other things (running the press off of made shots), but the attention to detail and amount of focus was huge. We played Smart basketball tonight. :D

Yeah, I totally agree. Our defense stepped up when OU tried to make their runs, On offense we shared the ball, no one tried to do crazy stuff (unless you consider Larry taking a three.... but he made it anyway so alls good), and for the most part we limited careless turnovers, some of the turnovers were due to lack of calls by the ref but thats beside the point. The only thing I think we need to work on is not getting so many fouls. Yeah not all of the fouls were legitimate fouls, but we really need to keep Larry out of foul trouble more.

Crowd/homecourt.
Better half court sets and half court defense.
Depth and team play.
Larry stays in game.
81% free throw shooting.

The following were big factors:

Better team.
Absence of the wave.
No Ole chant.

However, the biggest factor HAD to be the first official VCUBanana Ram Crawl!

Heart and Confidence! We knew it was our game and showed it from the tip. We just wanted it more.

...simple...'passion' and the emergence of leadership within the team to stay focused and energized...

(I also think OU had similar problems to our Wednesday game against WMU)

Good defense, rebounding and shooting is required to beat good teams. All of those are easier when you are at home. It's tough for any team to win on the road. When you're playing a good team on the road, it's a very, very tough assignment. OU had a tough assignment and they failed.

Over the years, we've had so many close, tough losses against top teams on the road or on neutral courts. They're not so tough nor close when they have to come to a hostile and unfamiliar environment.

Getting beat by Western Michigan and being trashed by everyone in the CAA including a lot of us who are fans of the team.

That got our guys fired up like nothing else can. They had to prove to everyone out there and to all the fans in the building that they are for real.

Never get too upset by road losses - especially weekday losses at places we've never been before. Unless, of course, we start losing 'em all like we did with McCarthy, or it's a team like Longwood or Liberty.

P.S. Majors know how tough road games are. The game against us is their ONLY OOC away game of the season. That's how majors schedule and coast through OOC play. They do have a "semi-away" game against Gonzaga.

Nothing gives a team confidence more than coming out to fight in front of a fired up home crowd. Just hearing the place go nuts after every score I think really helped them out too. When the crowd called for Defense Rams held tough and did just that. I was mentioning to some people during halftime when VCU came out to do practice shooting the entire team was all smiles. They never stopped smiling. I think the confidence of going into the half with a nice lead against the 17th ranked team plus being able to do this on their home court was what made this win special for the team (plus Sander's B day  ). They defended their turf proudly last night.

I would definitely give huge mention to our 3 pt shooting and FT. Especially Larry's FTs. Big improvement from last year.

The wave went around twice, but got cut off by the VCU chant

Nothing like a bar crawl for a big game.
Stay tuned for the second annual Ram Crawl. Ram Nation now's the time to jump on the bandwagon.
