Virginia Commonwealth, however, could be. The Rams seemingly fell off the bubble for good a few weeks ago, so Shaka Smart’s team likely needs to win the Colonial Athletic Association tournament to get back to the Big Dance again this season. After Sunday’s CAA semifinal win over George Mason, they’re in excellent position to do so. If VCU beats Old Dominion in the title game Monday night, they won’t just earn an automatic berth -- they’ll be the first legitimate bid-stealer of Champ Week. Old Dominion and George Mason would sure seem to have résumés good enough to get them in the tournament. But one team along the bubble will be hoping for a big Monarchs win Monday night, because a VCU victory will only make the bubble that much tighter as we race toward the completed bracket on Selection Sunday. In other words: big game. And not just for the Rams.

and Jerry Palm is as authoritative a source as Lunardi...and has the carrying network on his side too. Crazy to think he still has us at-large at this point, but crazier things have happened. the top 3 caa teams are sexy to the committee due to our repeated dominance in our league and our high profile wins/deep run in the NCAA. Our league is going to be consistently a 2 bid league in the years to come.

I don't know about that. I sure hope so, but remember that the Missouri Valley Conference is looking like a 1 bid conference for the 4th year in a row after having 2 bids in 2007 and 4 bids in 2006.

great point. Of course anything can happen during the season and if the middle to lower teams in the CAA continue to improve then we may see our teams beating ourselves up and lowering our profiles' but the cream has consistently risen to the top the last few years in our conference and I don't see that changing anytime soon...as long as Blaine, Larranaga and Shaka(hopefully) are at the helm of these schools, I think we'll continue to prove we're different than the MVC. They have more teams coming and going from year to year...we are consistently a 3 or 4 team league year in and year out.
Anyway...let's get this win tonight and give the committee a reason to elevate our league for a while at least.

I see GMU getting at large. Who knows VCU gets the privilege of being a first four play-in game?
