FAIRFAX, Va. – Christmas break must have been a good one for senior Kevin Brinkley (Richmond, Va.) of the Virginia Commonwealth University men’s track & field team.

Brinkley, a transfer from South Carolina, took down the school record and qualified for IC4As in the pole vault, clearing 15’ 9 ¾”, at this past weekend’s Father Diamond Invitational, hosted by George Mason University.

His mark was almost a foot-and-a-half better than his nearest competitor. It also breaks Bobby Wilson’s 13-year old school record of 15’ 3”.

This is the fourth event that the Black & Gold have had someone qualify for the IC4A Championships in and it is just two meets into the indoor season.

Brinkley was the only Ram to compete at the meet as the whole squad returns to action next weekend when it travels to the Navy Invitational in Annapolis, Md.

I am always happy to see the diversity in our athletic program. While I love our basketball program, there is a lot more going on at VCU in terms of other athletic programs. They all work hard for VCU but just don't get the recognition they deserve. GO ALL RAM ATHLETIC PROGRAMS.
