Didn't see this posted yet. VCU get's a mention in the Bubble Watch article.
Nevertheless, this is a team with a 10-2 record in a solid conference. They have more work to do (a win at Wichita State on Feb. 18 would be nice), but they're still in the picture.

Even if it was us, ODU, and GMU I think it would be swell to see three CAA teams in the tournament (much more exciting than seeing a bunch of mediocre major confernce teams). However the likelihood seems bleak.

yesterday Joe Lunardi had GMU and ODU in but us out. With VCU being a definite favorite in the VCU-GMU game next week, I dont understand how they are such an obvious CAA winner. Only time will tell I guess.

here are some recent brackets:

http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/bracketology ODU and Mason both getting the 9

VCU is currently the underdog in the VCU/GMU game.

Lunardi picks the autobid winner by the current leader of the conference regular season standings. In the event of a tie, he does not rely on conference tie breaker procedures, instead, he chooses the team with the better RPI.

Yeah, John's right, they pick who's hot at the moment. Love you one week, drop you the next.

One week VCU is the "clear favorite" and next week it's George Mason (even though we are tied)

We'd have to win out and get to the finals of the CAA tourney to have any chance at an at-large bid I think, but we have a good shot at the tourney crown and the autobid if our perimeter game is for 3 days.

Who really cares what they say? It makes it even more sweeter to prove them wrong. Most of the time we get too much credit so it is nice to be the underdog one time. Like we all say...JUST GET IT DONE!

Every year there are a a half-dozen or so teams talked about as bubble teams that everybody knows aren't really going to be picked, but are chattered about anyway. Why? Because it drives discussion, which raises interest, which sells papers/magazines and/or drives web traffic which sells ad views.

And keeps interest (and attendance) high(er) for those teams.

Some interesting #'s about the CAA:

Using RealTimeRPI:

My thoughts:
This is the first time since 06 (aka Mason's at large) that we have had 6 top 100, and 0 bottom 300.

This is the first time since the CAA expanded to 12 teams to have just 3 teams in the bottom 200.

In 2006, Hofstra was left out with the best RPI in the league of 22 (perhaps with newly expanded 68 team tournament they would be in).

The only years the CAA has had 2 teams get in the tournament, there has been 3 top 50 teams. VCU currently sits at 51/52.

I do think it's safe to say that this is the best year the CAA has had top to bottom, at least since 05-06, perhaps even since the "New CAA" started in 01.

Brutal schedule coming up, but definitely winnable games. If the Rams can go on a run here I gotta think we'd be looking good (but WAY easier said than done).

Rick said last night if VCU wins out, and ODU and Mason win out except @VCU we'd have a shot at all 3, assuming all 3 make it to Sunday of the tournament, and 2 of them play for the championship.

Using RPI forecast this would have going into the tournament:
Mason 21 (with win over Northern Iowa)
VCU 24-30 (depending on outcome of WSU game)
ODU 29 (with win over CSU)

All three would drop a few spots after Saturday's projected wins.
