This probably should be posted elsewhere but as it pertains to the CAA tourney I'll let the mods decide whether it should stay or not. Mayor Dwight Jones, per the RTD, is hosting a joint news conference with Tom Yeager, Commish of the CAA, today at 2 p.m. Mayor Jones plans to announce the future of the city's relationship with the conference. Film at eleven.

Thanks for that.

Richmond Mayor Dwight C. Jones plans to announce today the future of the city's relationship with the Colonial Athletic Association. Jones and CAA Commissioner Thomas E. Yeager have scheduled a 2 p.m. news conference at City Hall. The CAA has hosted its men's basketball championship at the Richmond Coliseum for 20 years.

I may be wrong, but you usually don't hold a press conference to announce you are ending a relationship with your other half in the room. Sounds like the tourney may be staying in Richmond. darn home court advantage!!! ;)

Maybe the CAA tourney is going to Miami ;)

The dweebs from GMU would still complain about nothing to do.

Perhaps an announcement about a new coliseum? We can only hope!

My guess? Hizzoner will announce an extension for the CAA tourney to be continued here for the near future with the provision that a blue ribbon regional panel will be appointed to explore the possibility of either rehab to the old brown spaceship or building a new facility.

The Great Pavradamus agrees.

I would think Yeager would need more than that to re-commit long term to Richmond (at least I hope that's the case). If not, it may indicate that he shopped the tournament elsewhere and received little interest.

I probably missed it, but did the news conference happen and what was announced?

I think the news conference is for today...9/7 at 2 pm est. Currently, it is only 10:44 am est. You still have 3 hours and 16 minutes to wait for news.

what about now?

According to RVANews, the City of Richmond will maintain its relationship with the CAA Tourney until at least 2014. There is an option to extend the relationship if Richmond meets "expectations." No word on what those are specifically.

I think it means that as long as the City keeps cleaning up the elephant poop we are good to go.
