Great Post and brings up some things that might change the landscape for the Tourney in Richmond.
Personally i love having the tourney so close to home, but frankly, if the city doesnt care, I say move it.

This topic is so old. If they could get a better deal somewhere else, they would have been gone last time they asked for proposals.

Yeager's letter is just posturing, hoping he'll get some of what he's asking for.

And, if they truly can get a better deal somewhere else, God Bless 'em. On the other hand, if the tourney moves out of Virginia and to the Northeast, it'll just get lost in the shuffle. The general public in those areas won't give a rat's ass. Say goodbye to success.

Moving the tourney to DC wouldn't be a bad idea. Larger population, would be very central to all schools except for maybe GSU and UNCW, and probably could lobby to use the Wizards arena which is first class compared to the coliseum. Also, I wouldn't mind spending a weekend in DC watching VCU win another title.

One other thing. There are a ton of VCU grads in NOVA. So getting fan support there wouldn't be to hard.

As usual you have a way of cutting right to the heart of the matter and you are certainly correct on this. Personally I love having thee tourney here and taking my family and friends to the games and affording ourselves of the many places for food and libation the city has to offer.
I do feel the accomodations at the coliseum, specifically the rest rooms and the food are way below what they should be.

The Tournament is in Central Virginia for good reasons - Richmond is a convenient location for most of the fans and the city isn't so big that the tournament would be overshadowed by other things.

Over the years I've gotten a kick out of out of towners complaining about the lack of good places to eat in Richmond. Then they go on and you find out their idea of a good place to eat is a friggin' food court.

Every year people say they don't know good places to eat in Richmond and every year Sometimes draws a city wide food map. He might be using the same map though who knows

Richmond has an amazing number of great, local restaurants for the size of the city. It drives me crazy when people talk poop about the city from a food or cultural standpoint. I may have moved to Brooklyn, but I left my heart in Dixie.

There ARE tons of places to eat and things to do in Richmond, its just a lot of people don't want to look for them.

The tourney in Central VA makes tons of sense, I just got a problem with the city of Richmond seemingly acting like it does not care about cultivating itself. Sure the CAA Tourney is not the only thing happening in Richmond, but Richmond could sure do a better job of making themselves look like a more marketable city.

To me it seems as though the city is sitting down and letting VCU do all of the revitalization of the city. (Just my opinion; seemed a bit strong  )

That's ok. At least it'll get done right.

The tournament is in Richmond because Richmond bids on it. You want the CAA tourney in your town? tell them to bid on it. It isn't VCU's fault, or Yeager's fault, or Richmond's fault... it's your cities fault.

I would never tell those idiots where to find a good place to eat for two reasons...keeps the crowds down at the good places and keeps me from sitting next to any of those mouth breathers

It is interesting that this week, Gov. Kaine and President Rao held a press conference to announce the construction of a new state-of-the-art, 12-story medical building in downtown Richmond. Millions is being invested and will provide employment for a bunch of people. To my knowledge, not a mention in the Richmond Times-Dispatch. We have, and will continue, developed and revitalized Richmond. Some folks just don't get the message.

That is fantastic news. Will it be a research center or hospital? Do you have a link to the RTD?

richmond or dc would be my vote, and it would piss off ODU in the process, a win-win. Again Yeager is posturing to get an upgrade to the Colesium before this year tourney. Maybe if we the "Governor's tournament" was started up at the end of the year, it would also help speed the process.
