Cady LaLanne --Potential 3 Star Big-Man Prospect

http://alabama.scout.com/a.z?s=14&p=2&c=908350

My head coach came with me on my official visit to Ole Miss," added Cady Lulane. "He has been with me on all of my visits."

What was the 6' 9", 222 pound center's first impression of the University of Mississippi?

"It was more than I was.

Which school could help him earn his degree?

"Georgia and Ole Miss have very good support programs. The other two (UMASS anand VCU) do too, and are real close, but Georgia and Ole Miss can really help you out."

What stands out about VCU?

"The program. They win games at VCU."

UMASS?

"Coach Kellogg is building an up and coming program. They are going to be good in a couple of years."

And Georgia?

"Their facilities stand out and Coach Mark Fox came from Nevada, and I think he is going to win at Georgia like he did at Nevada."

What about Ole Miss?

"They already have a real good team. They have all of their players back, healthy, and they are ready to make a run at the Final 4."

Time frame for a final decision?

"In the next two to three weeks. I will sign in November most likely."

I don't know if it is going to help us land this particular recruit or not, but I am glad that is the impression that recruits have of VCU. I believe that is very similar to what Basabe said about us as well. Our head coach hasn't coached any games at VCU before, and we can't help that, but at least they recognize that we have been in this position before and have kept winning.

The same Ole Miss team that went 16-15 last year? I just don't see a run for the Final 4 happening. Granted their team started 2 juniors and 3 sophmores, but I still don't see that happening....the Ole Miss coach must be one really presuasive guy.

It is very hard to read these comments made to reporters, etc. by these recruits. Sounds like we are recruiting him pretty hard. From somebody who reportedly has UMASS as the leading school the comments there don't sound too glowing. "good in a couple of years"?? Great if you want to wait that long.
Fox and UGA "thinks they'll win like he did at Nevada?? Ole Miss "they already have a good team".
These comments certainly didn't clarify anything on this candidate for me. Our comments don't sound any worse or better than any of the other schools.

Unfortunately as we know it doesn't matter if they improve on there 16-15 record or not as long as the coach can convince Cady that they will. Just look at what he said about his final four UMass-Going to be good in a couple of years, Georgia-Think he is going to win, Ole Miss-Ready to make a run, and of course VCU-They win games. Yet who knows where we stand with this guy. We don't appear to be very high up on the list although any thing is possible. I would love to see us sign this guy though. Hopefully he will realize that he likes winning as much as the guys that are already here.

You snuck this one in while I was typing my last post. I agree with what you are reading into this, but you never know how well the coaches of those other programs sold him on their vision of the future. Far too often it seems like recruits are sold on the potential upside of teams like Georgia that have sparkling facilities and are in a BCS conference that never materializes. At least he knows that he can come to VCU and be a part of something that is already successful. Hopefully he will make his decision based on that.

Keep in mind, Chris Warren for Ole Miss missed almost all of last season with a knee injury and he was one of their best players as a freshman.

that is true, but I dont even think they are predicted top 4 in the SEC preseason let alone a final 4 team.

The parts of the interview with Cady I found important that werent mentioned and could all be important in whether we get him or not.

What will be the important factors in the decision?

"I just want to go somewhere that develop players so I can hopefully play in the NBA or overseas one day. Getting my degree is important too because you have to have that in case basketball does not work out. Lastly I am looking for a staff that I fit in with perfectly."

When was the last time Ole Miss, UGA or UMass sent a player to the NBA?

Does the Floridian fit in with any one staff better than the others?

"I like all of the staffs. I feel I fit in with all of them. I feel comfortable with all of them. I wanted to talk to the players about the coaches to see how everything really is and how the coaches really are. But, you have so much going on during those visits, you never really get a chance to do that. I got some numbers from the players at each school, and I am going to be calling them over the next couple of weeks and get that question answered. All of the coaches are nice to you when they are recruiting you. I want to know how they are when you are not a recruit (laugh). That will be a big part of my decision."

This is where Larry and J-rod especially can be helpful.

And just how does Lalanne fit into the OM hoop's program?

"They do a lot of pic and roles, and they need someone with some defense to come in there, set the pick, block some shots, and also have the ability to step out of the interior and hit some shots. That is what I do best, block shots, rebound, and shoot the ball."

What does the Oak Ridge standout want to work on most?

"I am trying to work on my ball handling and putting on some more weight. I have gone from 210 to 225 since last season. I want to start my senior season at 225. That is my goal."

Last year Lalanne averaged 17 points, 14 rebounds, 3 blocked shots, and 2 assists a game while being named All-Orlando. Where does the Preseason All-State selection visit next?

The way he envisions himself fitting into Ole Miss is a lot like what we would need for him to be able to do here if were to come. The fact that he is already up to 225 bodes very well for his future ability to play on the interior because if he is 6 9 235 he can easily play the 4 or even possibly the 5 in the CAA.

full conversation of which other parts already posted. http://mississippi.scout.com/a.z?s=177&p=2&c=908350

He has some connections with Larry, Terence and Ed as they all played on the Florida AAU circuit and know the same people. I can't imagine Cady would be able to find a nicer coaching staff the Smart, Jones and crew.

VCU has produced numerous pro players and he will get some playing time as a Freshman. Let's hope for the best. He would be that much needed C that we so dearly want/need.

i am not even sure he would have to play center as a freshman because skeen is big and strong enough where he could do it and allow cady another year of growth and development physically before he would really have to play there

Agree, and that's assuming Sanders doesn't stay for his Senior year, which I still believe is a fairly good probability. [I certainly believe it is recommended, even in light of Larry's "potential"].

Again, a bigman signing now for 2010 would be a very wise move for a player seeking lots of PT without immediate pressure AND with major opportunity for NBA development. I honestly believe everything is in place BUT coaching stability, which we cannot blame Smart for or any of our past excellent coaches.

Our best years are ahead, and Smart will find the young big guy that understands that. If not this year, then next. I hope coaches and us fans can be patient?

I am of the belief Larry is gone, but if he isnt it is like recruiting a 5 star center for 1 year and i think we would all sign up for that.

Cady Lalanne will probably be committing to a school within the next week. IMO the Dawgs are in very good shape with Lalanne, who is picking between UMass, VCU, UGA, and Ole Miss.

this would contradict with DB's timeline, and based on today being the 25th seems less likely, but would be nice to see some of these decisions get made one way or the other. I like Cady the most of the 4 we talk about still being there right now, and it seems he is the "highest" on UGA's wish list, or at least that was before the Kemp potential news.
