Such is life at VCU.

It's a consistently solid program that produces future coaching stars like a basketball version of American Idol. You go there as an unknown, mature, win and eventually accept a million-dollar offer from a power-conference school. Then your successor does the same thing. It happened for Jeff Capel, who took over at VCU in 2002 and left four years later to become Oklahoma's head coach. It also happened for Anthony Grant, the Florida assistant VCU hired to replace Capel in 2006, then lost to Alabama in 2009 after two NCAA tournament appearances in three seasons.

Next up is Shaka Smart.

How about that Tru-Tv coverage so far. Anyone know anything about them, hope they're not connected to CBS or ESPN, they seem to be a natural for basketball coverage. Is anyone as bored with ESPN or CBS as I am? I believe their time has come and gone as a credible sports show, time for something new IMO.

Tru-Tv is part of the Turner family of networks (TBS, TNT). Coverage on Tru has been very solid. Granted they are sharing analysts (Seth Davis among them) with CBS, I've enjoyed their coverage thus far. I want to see more Barkley though!

FYI, TBS does a pretty darn good job with MLB playoff coverage too. Most of these Turner networks are in the same number of houses as ESPN, so the ability to create a competitor is there. The quality of coverage is certainly on par, if not better, than ESPN. I'm tired of the monopoly! I would love the CAA to go out and sign a contract with one of these networks in the future.

Part of the Turner family of networks. Formerly known as Court TV.

That Marty Smith guy is a NASCAR reporter for EPSN... and he knows more than Bilas, Vitale, and Retardi combined!

Swiss, that was Marty Snider, who is a Nascar on TNT guy. Marty Smith is ESPN's Nascar/Nascar Now reporter.

Hmm... The name Marty and Nascar, I guess they go together :)

Yeah, one minute I'm watching the post-game and the next minute there's a couple of big, fat nasty b!tches repo-ing cars.

Love'm and leave'm. I really like the direction of the team and like Shaka as a person in the brief times I have gotten to speak with him privately.

If you've been around any of the USC forums in the past couple of days. they've been saying nothing but great things about Shaka, and they want him hired to replace Kevin O'Neill as soon as possible (i.e. immediately following our exit). Same goes for Providence, Arkansas, and just about every P6 opening around the country.

Makes me feel a bit ashamed to see our fans bashing him just a couple weeks ago. :?

I really hope he decides to look around at guys like Todd Lickliter and Keno Davis - guys who spent a couple years at one school, had immediate success, then jumped to a P6 program. Unfortunately for them, they found they didn't have the support in place and couldn't appease rabid "win now" fan bases with the mediocre talent left over from previous coaches.

Ashamed isn't the word I was thinking of.

You are also assuming that if he goes some where else that folks won't question things he does. Folks may criticize him, but they still support him. I hope he stays and builds, he still has alot to learn. I hope he does it here, whether I agree with him all the time isn't that important, just an opinion.

There's a difference between questioning his decisions and saying he should be fired because we finished the regular season 21-10 (12-6), 4th place in the CAA.
