So he has an intense stare. That will be helpful in close games.

Can you recruit? He’s brought in two players known to him. Hopefully we hear soon about our current players in the portal who decide to stay and maybe a few new ones?

does anyone know the style of basketball that Martelli Jr. favors

i understand @ Bryant they played a fast paced game but what can we expect in a half court set on offense (plays , freelance, pick n Roll et al)

also defensively what is the base defense and amount of pressure we will see (e.g. where do we pick up, how does he defend pick n roll, does his deny on the wings or allow teams to make easy passes on the perimeter, do they double down when ball enters to low post etc.)

thanks for any intel

Judging from his pressers/interviews, they will have situational sets but the goal is more read and react. Get the shot up before the defense is set. I wouldnt go as far as to say full freelance but based on the sounds of it, it will depend on players IQ and scouting to play without a lot of play recall memory. Don’t count on the pg pounding the ball at the top while players get to their spots

Offensively a lot of motion, dribble handoffs and some on-ball screens. Looks like he's big on weak side actions (hammer and pin down screens seem to be the go-to), which I'm a big fan of as it makes it easier for help side defenders to lose their man on the outside.

Defensively man to man. Off ball guards are going to sag off their man and close out aggressively but under control then fly around the perimeter if they need to rotate. A lot of switching on the perimeter for guards/wings with bigs playing drop on screens. Low man will have at least one foot in the paint depending where the ball is. Communication will be huge

I went to the introductory press conference and radio show to get a feel for things. I left impressed. As the days go by my worrisome mind has transitioned into excitement for this offseason and next season. I think Coach Martelli is gonna build a nice roster and give us exciting basketball. I love that he is so pumped up to be the VCU coach.

I just think he is cool, and for me, this counts as something.

He's certainly got his priorities straight. Getting Jennings to return was a major coup, because even if he didn't go to UVA, he realistically could have gone anywhere else given how much potential he has. I can't wait to see what else he manages to pull off.

Yep. He brought in Mitchell and Evans so if he brings back Bamgboye and Fermin stays the front court will be much improved. He might bring back Belle and others. You never know. At this point he just needs to get some shooters.
