Coaching Rumors and Changes that Affect VCU

So what is wrong with Keatts, a losing streak or something?
The A10 doesn't have a great track record with retreads. Look at Archie at URI and Frank at Umass. Although one could argue that Grant has been successful at Dayton. However, their fan base seems to feel differently.

Gonna be fascinating to see what happens. Norwood and the Ed have both done an incredible job of making the right hires over the years. You may not always agree with the moves and the coaching exits to P5 schools has been a constant but there’s no denying that they all have come in and won without multiple major rebuilding years. Do we promote from within or find the next star out there? Lots of good coaches will line up for this one. Says a lot about our program to be wanted.

I read on here or somewhere that NC State had $5.9 million this past year to spend on basketball and it wasn't enough to keep up with the big boys. Auburn was mentioned in the article and is spending $10 million.

We are nowhere near $5.9 I'm sure, and more than likely to lure Odom, NC State will need to throw more $ at the basketball team.

Or not

We want to be in the big leagues but we don’t appear to have any dependable sources of big league money. And we are in what looks more and more like a one bid league. I think we are a great opportunity for coaches on the way up but if they are interested in “building something”, it’s going to be much easier at the next level up so I really don’t see them staying. This is just our niche spot.

On the plus side, the portal situation may work better for us than it does for a lot of other schools since we’ll need to rebuild a lot more.

He’s a really bad coach. He would’ve been fired last year until their miracle run. They were really bad until that run. That run was due to the players getting it together and nothing to do with Keatts. He’s been bad throughout his time at NC State and this past year was just awful.

This is 100% accurate. I did read that next year we are close to $5 mil being invested in basketball with the new rules? I could be wrong on that.

Instead of traditional jersey numbers, players should start wearing their salaries on their backs .... in calling a foul, official says "foul on no. $24,389 .... "
Haha yeah it’s definitely getting out of hand but I guess that’s just the world we live in now.

A long time ago
In a galaxy far away (Wilmington, NC)
Kevin Keatts was a hot, young coach at UNCW with 3 consecutive regular season titles, 2 consecutive NCAA Tourney appearances, and a robust .720 winning percentage (in 3 years at the helm)

And then he left for greener pastures and Brett Blizzard's mother wept....

tale as old as time....I don't think NC State is as shiny a job as WE imagine.....but, money talks and Alpha coaches like a challenge

Oh yeah Keatts did very well at UNCW. His 4 guard style didn’t work in the P4. As a State fan secondary to VCU, I would agree they are not a top power job. It’s a good job but not great. There was a time when NC State was THE basketball program in North Carolina but that was a time long ago.

Minnesota's AD flew into fire Ben Johnson in the middle of the night. Only 1 winning season, and also only $2 million for basketball towards NIL.
Doesn't sound like much for a B1G school.
