Complete 2009-2010 All-CAA teams

speaking of Lee...wasn't he Preseason POY? maybe co-POY...ends up 4th in the final poll (someone from ODU had to be on the 1st team kinda vote in my opinion. Jenkins..meh...he didnt impress me...big body point guy with a green light good but not POY....this was an odd year for POY as there was never a clear cut choice...LS could have been had he played better in 3 or so games..@ODU, NU etc..
We're spoiled to have a guy like Larry and even with that said he has been off of late. If he gets back to his peak...we go four and win...the rest of the team has stepped it up, we just need to put it all together...should be fun to watch...pluck the Hens 1st people

Honestly Horn I don't think there a single poster on here who thinks that way. Most believe Larry's gone regardless of post season honors and certainly its not going to impact the NBA's evaluation of Larry.

Personally, my pick was Jenkins (though I thought Lee would get it) in a year where there was no clear cut choice. A legit argument could be made for 4 or 5 guys. Its kinda like a close fight that could be decided by 1 point either way. Your personal choice may have been the loser, but you can't really dispute it but so much because it was so close.

And let me ask this, if what you saying is true why weren't people rooting against Maynor winning POY after his junior year? The NBA talk was certainly out there and Maynor did consider that option.

So I think you're conspiracy theory is way off.

From my vantage, it's an ever-so obvious ploy of trying to convince No. 1 - and possibly (insane as it may be) the folks who are evaluating No .1 - that another year in black and gold would be more valuable to his future than a year of playing/practicing with an NBA team, for unthinkable riches.

And you think that Mr. 77-inch Wingspan - with this self-serving attitude from his supposed fan base - might want to chuck $2.5 million to play another season for You Guys?

I am going to blow a few people away with this statement but here it is.
Joey Rodriquez should have been player of the year in my opinion. Atleast I can say for sure he was VCU's POY. Great season Joey! But it aint over, SON........

The only defense Larry seems to play this year is weakside D. It is like he will not risk fouling his own man by playing D, so he provides help on the weakside.

Hope he plays D full out in the tourney.

One of the problems is that our guards have consistently allowed opposing guards to get past them. It's a product of the aggressive perimeter D. There's always a trade-off.

VRam,

I noticed that a lot in the ODU VCU game. You guys guarded us 3-4-5 feet outside the 3 point line. Now, that is your style and against most teams it works well of course.

However, against a team like ODU with our 3 pt shooting being our team flaw...do you think Smart will sag off a little more if you guys play us Sunday? Seemed like Baze and Lee and even DJ at times and Finney (though Finney couldn't finish) were able to get to the rim relatively easily. Now you collapsed but we don't normally get to the rim that easy so I wonder if Smart will adjust that if we do play and make us beat you from the outside...

I'm sure there will be some adjustments, but on the other hand we scored a lot off turnovers and were in a position to win. so I don't think we'll back off too much on the perimeter. It's really a matter of players playing smarter and being aware. I think we did a much better job of staying in front of Bazemore in the second half. The first half we were lousy at it.

Hassel...we shouldn't change a thing....you had a couple shots go in that probably wont happen again (what's your guards name??? and you can rest assured Lee wont have another superman dunk (I am so glad he didnt hurt himself on that play..whew.)
You blew your wad on senior day..welcome to the NIT
BTW..hasnt a bit of the shine of the Hoya win been tarnished a bit???....would have helped if you beat U of R ...sorta like we did

Sigh. Jrod did not deserve to be POY. He might be VCU's best player but that definitely does not make him POY. Look, I like J-Rod he reminds me a little bit of JJB(Although JJB was a significantly better shooter/pentrator.. Joey's a better defender though), that being said he definitely was not the player of the year. I'd give it to Jenkins, Chase, Lee or even Janning before I'd give it to J-rod.

I agree Larry wasn't quite what the expectations are for him but he's a helluva player. When there's as much hype as there was going into the year I think there has always been major potential for let down. There's a reason Sanders got as many votes as he did for POY. It's because he's really darn good. If his effort is anything like today was ODU and Mason had better watch out.

Personally I thought Jenkins would win it based on his play over the last week or so. If NU had won the HU game last week Chase probably locks up the award.

If he improves on defense, I see no reason why he couldn't. He made Larry look like a child. He has NBA size, soft hands, and good low post moves. A legit 6'10 PF capable of banging down low. He's a pretty refined scorer. He just can't play defense to save his life. If he changes that (which is half of the game, so not a small thing at all), he can and should get NBA looks. Maybe not lottery/first round looks, but certainly as a 2nd-round flyer.
D-League at best.

since when does playing defense get you into the nba?

buh zing!
