Congrats Shaka

love the emotion!!!

Emotion good
Timing awful

The timing ranks right up there with kicking the basketball. If that doesn't send the message to Larry that he's under the officials' microscope for the rest of the season, then nothing will.

while it wasn't without risk given the timing, I think it paid dividends and resulted in a net gain... afterward the refs didn't let Hofstra's bigs bang quite as much... we got a few calls our way down low of the type we hadn't been getting earlier, and it helped KP and Larry have a bit more room to maneuver

and I'm pretty sure it only looked like Larry was kicking the ball when he was really pumped up and celebrating the score and then almost simultaneously had to react and step over the ball rather than trip ...but unfortunately Larry will have to get used to almost never getting the benefit of the doubt if he does anything that even appears naughty

I dont think any coach wants to get a T with a double digit lead on the road.

tell that to Mark Fox... well, I suppose the lead there was under 10

I'm not saying it was truly calculated, I just think he'd seen us getting body-mugged without consequences and was fed up.

If you watched the ESPNU broadcast, then you saw the clear "I TOLD YOU SO" stare that Shaka gave to Larry when he returned to the bench!

THIS. You guys act like he was trying to get the T on purpose, which I GUARANTEE he was NOT trying to do!

Not on purpose, but I am sure he realized that he might be walking a fine line. He didn't stay out on the court very long, so he must have said something that they didn't like. It did get us some calls later on though. Brandon was getting abused early in the game and I don't believe he ever got a call.

He wasn't even on the court. Without knowing what he said, and from watching his sideline demeanor all season, he didn't seem to do anything out of the ordinary. He flies up and down the sideline of our bench all game long, and it appeared as though this particular ref took exception to that this time...

I was two rows back behind the bench, and while I certainly couldn't hear a word that was exchanged, it certainly seemed like it was something Shaka said. He wasn't running around throwing his arms around in anger or anything, and the ref turned and blew his whistle VERY quick.

Whatever it was, I'm going with language/content. I think whatever it was that Shaka said exactly got him the T.

Did you not see the stare down that Larry had in his eyes for an opposing playing? I think that is what got him the technical.

I did not see that, and your mention of it is the first I've heard about any reasoning other than celebration/ball kicking... from what I remember Larry was smiling and doing a sort of celebratory and lighthearted-looking dance-like move, the ball ended up at his feet, and he either kicked at it, or tried to avoid stepping/tripping on it and it looked like a kick

commentators stated that Coach Smart was too far out on the court resulting in a T
