Did Jerreau Really Verbal to VCU?

Guess we can put the champagne back in the bottle for a while

this is why i never, ever get excited about a recruit until they actually make it to campus.

Well obviously we have a couple sleazebags over at Washington. Nice to see they have the balls to do an in-home visit after Jarreau committed in the morning. That speaks volumes.

This recruiting game is DIRTY business, esp. at the high-major level. It's just so funny how blatantly obvious this one is since Telep let it slip that they conducted a late-night Monday in-home visit after breaking the news in the morning that he committed to us.

Well he couldnt have been that committed to us if he A let them in and B liked what they said enough to "reopen his recruitment" after talking to him

My guess is he already had the in-home visit with Washington scheduled, he verbals to VCU, calls Washington's staff to let them know, they tell him they'd like to proceed with the in-home visit and convinces him to at least visit their campus before deciding, and he agrees. Washington has a very solid program. We'll see what happens.

I guess they could've taken the first flight to New Orleans after hearing about the verbal (minimum 6 1/2 hour flight unless they were already on the east coast recruiting). I'm thinking it was already scheduled and they didn't want to cancel (though Jerreau could've canceled it if he wanted to).

let him visit-this is his future.
He said he connected with coach smart and the players.
Nice that VCU is busting a Pac-10's noogies on the recruiting trail

It's going to be a dogfight. Chill that is also very plausible.

Merc, good points.

what's the second?

As for Jerreau...He and his family will do what they think is best......hope it's here, but can't fault the kid for exploring every option. This is kind of a big deal for him

I don't expect him to reopen his recruitment (the same day he commits no less), visit a major-conference school and then come back and honor his original commitment to a mid-major. It never happens that way.

This young man is obviously rather impulsive, giving his verbal after his first official visit, then turning around and pulling a "takesy backsy" after talking to another school the same day. I agree, weigh your options first and then choose. Lets hope he comes to the conclusion that VCU is the best place for him.

I am sure Coach Smart and staff would love a concrete answer from Jerreau but I would also put money on the fact that we are still heavily persuing other players. Just the way it works. As DB stated we still have a shot at a great JUCO player who would provide immediate impact.

This recruiting thing goes both ways. Jerreau backs out for the moment and then maybe someone else gives us a verbal and it could be Jerreau's loss. Who knows who our final four players will be come November signing period.

I don't think its fair to say he's impulsive. I suspect Washington was rather persuasive in convincing him to check them out before making a decision. Remember, he visited VCU two weeks ago so its not like he committed immediately after his visit. I really think this is more about Washington being aggressive and probably made a very compelling case to consider them before committing.

At this point, I'd rather pursue the JUCO! Although the JUCO wasn't willing to commit to us thus far, at least he didn't verbal and back out within 24 hours. I say move on as we did with Wilson.
