DISCLAIMER: I realize RPI means next to nothing right now...but it's nice to see us in the top 20 regardless.

With the win over Richmond, we have jumped to #19 in CBSSports.com RPI rankings. W&M is holding it down for the CAA at #18 just ahead of us. Richmond got bumped down to #35 after the loss.

We are 2-1 against the top 50 right now (wins over #35 Richmond and #48 Rhode Island and a loss by one at #18 W&M), and 3-2 against the top 100 (win over #84 Nevada and a loss at #90 W.Michigan). We also have a win over the then #17-ranked team in the nation in Oklahoma who should get back into the top 100 once Big12 play starts and they get back on track. I suspect Western Mich. will likely fall out of the top 100 as well.

Our RPI stands to take a bit of a hit as we play at #178 Tulane before hosting #132 East Carolina at home and then of course CAA play, but if we keep winning, we could stick around in the top 50! Not bad at all for a team that everyone else in the CAA thought was done without Eric and Anthony Grant.

Well, don't discount the RPI so much. We are now nearly one third of the way through the season and these numbers are starting to firm up a bit.

Beating Tulane on the road would still help our RPI. That is why we need to win that game. Road wins count more than home wins so the extra credit will discount their record.

The ECU game is also a must win. Home losses count more. We can't afford the home loss.

Remember that we also have the Bracket Buster game to play. That selection is usually ruffly based upon RPI. Right now we would be in good shape to get a great team into the SC for that game, and a great return game for us next year. Butler is a Home team, so right now we would be one of the top Home teams, after Butler. We also will be a better TV game out of this. After the first of the year I'll start tracking that closer. How good would it be to get a top 50 team at the SC in February?

Things are good. Enjoy!

Winning, even if they are lower level RPI teams, helps. I think if we can finish 15-3 in the CAA (easier said than done) we'd be in the 40's RPI-wise. Need to win the CAA reg season and get to the title game - - with our resume and a good RPI we'd have a shot at an at-large.

I liked what I saw out of T - - with Larry, Jamie and Big T we could be very, very good. heck, KP is the #4 or 5 option now and he started last year.

The RPI formula starts to work once most teams hit 10 games played. We are very close to that mark right now. I'm not saying we're the 19th best team in the nation, just saying that we shouldn't entirely discredit our current RPI ranking either.

I hate to start playing the What if? game, but if we finish 15-3 in the CAA and win these last two OOC games we would be a lock for an at-large bid and we will be in the 20's RPI. Now I guess I'll add that for us to be a lock Oklahoma would have to be ranked, and either URI or ur would have to be ranked, and W&M can't totally implode late. But this is a pretty impressive OOC schedule and record. Those are some pretty good teams we have beat.

Now I don't think we will be 15-3 in the CAA. I figure more like 13-5. That would still be pretty good, as long as the losses are not to bottom teams.

We are in great shape right now. Just keep winning and the numbers will take care of themselves.

You're being overly pessimistic, Rick. I think we lose one game in the CAA this year. It's just not that good of a conference. I'm telling you we'll hit 20-2 before we lose another game.

We always drop a couple of games we shouldn't during the CAA slate. That's a bold prediction. I hope you're right but I don't see it. If Skeen really is the real deal then we could be close, but not undefeated. That's crazy talk.
