According to Justin Young via Chill's post we are on the radar for this great young talent

May, 2009: Williams is a long, thin, athletic power forward/center that plays with energy. He is a tough competitor that gets after it on the boards and gives his team extra possessions with his ability to offensive rebound. He is a tough competitor that will mix it up down low. His shooting ability is best at close range as he scores most of his points on put backs, dump-offs and in transition. Because of his lateral quickness defensively, he showed he can guard 3 positions from the small forward to the center positions. With some concentration on some perimeter skill development and some time in the weight room Williams could surpass this projection.

This kid has obviously flown low under the VCURAMNATION radar. His writeups sound solid. Offensive rebounder!! Defensive quickness!! Sounds like a future havoc wreaker that does a little of everything for you. More of a 3 star I'd say from the things people are saying. Sounds like another kid on the rise who would fit in well with Brandenburg and McCarter to round out this recruiting class. Let's get busy.

We don't want any two star centers around here. The last one we got is only planning on staying for 3 seasons.

I dunno, according to John he still has a lot of work to do before he is ready to bust outta here...

well rivals has this one as a 3 star, so maybe that means he stays 4 years. ;)

Donte may have flown under the VCURAMNATION radar to some extent, but he has been on our coaches radar for some time. We have been recruiting him for a good while.

Donte is a 6'9" athlete with a lot of length and a lot of upside. He would be a real good get for the Rams. It won't be easy because Tenn. and the Alabama schools recruit the state of Georgia very hard and very well. Also, Georgia has missed out on a number of prospects for 2010 and may put a full court press on this kid. They of course have been involved for some time.

i said a couple days ago, not sure in which thread, but UGA is pushing hard on Cady as well so the fact we are both pushing for both can help us because Donte is not the only one Fox is pushing for.

I am so ready for someone to commit. I'm sure the coaching staff would like to get the incoming 2010 group settled too so that they can focus 100% on the upcoming season.

Found this article about the Reebok All-American Camp which mentions Williams.

Donte Williams, 6-9 power forward, Miller Grove (GA), Class of 2010: This 6-9 Georgia native caught my attention after noticing how active he was while on the floor. He was very active on the glass, defensively and offensively, giving his team second shot opportunities. Williams also did a great job contesting shots and as a result of his effort ended up with some blocks. Shot a couple of nice turn-around jumpers in the paint.

some info from sort of a UGA version of ramnation.
It does not look like UGA is heavily recruiting Donte Williams right now. He has a already taken official visits to UAB and VCU and an unofficial to Tennessee, who recently offered him. Those 3 schools are his top 3 at the moment but he is also still considering taking visits to UGA and Auburn. Williams plans to sign in the early period and will probably decide on a school the first week of the signing period.

is there a reason that rivals doesnt have us listed with Williams while their info with the other 3 we talk about (lalanne, payne, basabe) is very accurate?

Williams has to be watching our "close but no cigar" dealings with all these other big men (we've been recruiting and just missing out on) and realize all the more just how attractive VCU should be for a guy like him.

He would be our future big to begin rebuilding the front court around, and he will be surrounded by a stable full of talented guards and small forwards, all gaining experience a year or so ahead of him.

PT, baby, PT...for a winning program! Donte, look no further.

PS
I share a little suprise and dissapointment that we didn't land an additional big guy, since we were on the short list for a number of quality kids. I remain convinced the glass is half full, and the recent close misses only add to our chances of landing Williams.
