DP: VCU best hoops in State?

Love the idea, but I think Virginia Tech will be the best team in the state this year

I'd love to know how Tech can be considered the best in the state when they schedule weak teams and expect to make the tourney just based on that. Maybe when they start testing themselves we can have that conversation until then Tech is getting what they deserve year after year. NIT.

Their schedule is still tougher than ours so you have no argument...nice try though.

Pre-season top 25 team and picked to finish 2nd in the ACC..some of you guys are just being homers here

Nothing wrong with admitting that VT will more than likely be the best team in the state.

Yeah, their schedule is much stronger than ours, just based on their conference play. True, they schedule cup cakes for OCC, but they gotta try and look like they belong in the ACC, and padding the record against cupcakes is better for them than losing to mid- and high-majors.

Saying Tech schedule is tougher than ours is not really a argument too. They play in the ACC vs the Rams who play in the CAA. They get a tougher schedule because of the conference. Tech still schedules weak opponents OOC. If you are a part of the ACC you should be expected to schedule quality OOC opponents. If we want to play the conference match up game we can say VCU is consistently at the top year after year and always a contender for the CAA championship since 2002(minus 05 of course). Tech on the other hand made a one NCAA tourney appearance(07) since 1996.

Easy way to settle the issue. VCU vs Tech at a neutral court. 8-)

Not that I'm commenting on the subject of who is better. that will be played out over the season.

But as far as VT scheduling cupcakes... we don't exactly have a schedule full of strong OOC games either

That's the point, it doesn't matter who they schedule, they still have a tougher one. Regardless, they're not better because of their schedule, it's because their team is flat out better. More talent and better players and that's not a diss on VCU, that's a compliment to them. And if you know me, you know I hate the hokies more than the Taliban, but I'm objective enough to say they are more talented than us even though we have PLENTY of talent and a great team.

Could we beat them? Abso-effing-lutely and I would love the chance to prove it, but they would have nothing to gain from it.

Two thoughts on that.

1. The OOC opponent quality expectations are generally higher for ACC teams than mid major conference yet Tech doesn't follow that trend. The ACC title alone can get teams in the conference good OOC opponents if they want them.

2. Major conference teams will find playing a mid major pointless because they have nothing to gain. That's the difference between us and Tech even if both have weaker OOC games. VCU has to accept a usually weak OOC because of the mid major status. Tech on the other hand has the ability to get quality games and doesn't take advantage of it.
