DP: VCU best hoops in State?

I'm not ready to agree VT has better players, based on the last few years VCU would have more than held their own. If i was a VT fan i would be disappointed i did not get to see EM3 or LS1 in person.

Easy way to settle the issue. VCU vs Tech at a neutral court. 8-)

As long as it's the Richmond Coliseum.
Even then you know it will be packed with Tech fans. Since their football team got real good, their fanhood has spread like the plague.

Two thoughts on that.

1. The OOC opponent quality expectations are generally higher for ACC teams than mid major conference yet Tech doesn't follow that trend. The ACC title alone can get teams in the conference good OOC opponents if they want them.

2. Major conference teams will find playing a mid major pointless because they have nothing to gain. That's the difference between us and Tech even if both have weaker OOC games. VCU has to accept a usually weak OOC because of the mid major status. Tech on the other hand has the ability to get quality games and doesn't take advantage of it.

1. Sorta. I kinda agree, but there are plenty of teams that cupcake up their schedule. VT has Kansas St. and Purdue in their OOC this year. That is two ranked teams. Likely Purdue won't stay ranked, but that was for something out of anyone's control, with Hummel's injury. Most BCS teams have about two ranked opponents. So, I agree in years past they have scheduled like a bunch of scared kids, but this year they attempted to put together a decent OOC.

2. We don't have to accept a weak OOC schedule at all. I am willing to bet we could play at least two ranked teams every year if we were willing to travel. Now if you are referring to Home games, then yes, I agree people don't want to come play here. But that is no different than me not wanting to go play at Hampton. If we accept a couple road games against ranked team every year then we will win some of these games. Once we get VCU ranked it becomes a lot easier to get a ranked opponent into the STU. Because at that stage a road loss to a ranked team isn't nearly as bad.

My two pennies.
