-Larry Sanders- Another player that evokes some pretty strong reactions on first glance, Larry Sanders may have helped himself as much as anyone just by showing up for this camp. Measuring 6-10 in shoes, with a freakish 7-6 ½ wingspan and a frame that should put on weight, Sanders probably would have been a first round pick solely based on upside had he decided to enter the draft this year. He’s also a pretty athletic guy, as he showed repeatedly by running the floor and going well out of his area for impressive rebounds on both ends of the floor. Defensively, he was an incredible presence at times, changing absolutely everything around the basket just by putting his arms in the air. He needs to do a better job not biting on pump-fakes, but his potential in this area is obviously considerable. Offensively, Sanders is extremely limited at this point in time, looking mechanical in his movements and showing a very low-skill level. He did attempt some mid-range jumpers, but doesn’t seem to have the greatest touch.

They think Larry could have been a first round pick this past draft.

This is no surprise. Larry like Eric has a bright future ahead of him. Hopefully his offense will progress even further this season.

It is obvious that Larry will be a draft pick....He just needs to stay Humble ...Hungry ...and Hard working..(3H) and he will in all likelyhood have a nice career to look forward to after school....Larry seems to have a dynamic personality which I think is going to take him far. :ugeek: :ugeek: :ugeek:

am i the only one who kind of cringes every time i read draft stuff on sanders?

maybe i'm crazy here, but the ONLY thing i want to read about is how larry plans on staying out of foul trouble, improving his shot and free throw percentage, and developing post moves to help VCU reach greatness. all i can say is that i hope he is focused and grounded coming into this season.

I cringe when I read that he's a Jr and still has very limited offensive skills. Hopefully his offensive skills are much better than last year but we need him to have at least average skills this year for a big guy. Look for Skeen to be the top scorer once he gets into the game.

Those limited offensive skills may be our only hope for Sanders coming back his senior year. I also think Skeen may end up being our top scorer by the en of the season. I'm just praying for Sanders and Skeen to both be playing together for VCU their senior years. That could be very, very scary!

Meh, his offensive skill set may not be where many would hope a rising junior would be, but you have to remember the length of time that he has been playing organized basketball. heck, Shaka is recruiting guys for the 2010-11 season that have been playing twice as long as Larry has.

Larry is a great physical talent. I think he should stay through his senior year, however, to develop further physically, offensively and bb IQ.

I suspect he can go later half of first round after his jr. year, just based of defensive and physical upside; however, I would hope Larry has a hunger to become much better and use his final year of college to do that.

He will make money, and can play in the NBA. Why not play as an impact player and a valued part of a franchise, instead of a journyman traded for yet another kid with a bright upside? Being a professional means developing the full game. I look forward to Larry doing that, but if he bails before he does that [because he can't develop all he needs to work on in one year] then I wish him the very best.

PS
I'd love to see Larry calling for the ball in the paint with the gam one the line and Larry being able to deliver. That is what first round picks do on-going in my book. Go Larry!

Limited offensive skills for a 6'10" NBA player and a 6'10" CAA player are two different concepts.

What is the difference or advantage to staying in the college game under college coaches for a senior year as opposed to being placed in the NBA and getting fed into their development system?? I really don't know the answer to this question.

Whatever Larry decides to do we can at least feel comfortable that he will be being advised by Shaka Smart, a coach who very much appears to be about the right things with regard to personal development of the players. I'm confident he will provide sound guidance and help Larry to make the very best decision for the good of Larry Sanders.

I hope Larry has a monster year, we win big and Larry's a lottery pick next year. That's what's best for Larry and it ain't bad for us either.

Go Larry!! Go Rams!!

I hope Larry has a monster year and decides to stay anyway. Enjoy another college season, get his degree, put off the NBA grind for a year. Get even stronger, polish up his offensive skills, both post and facing the basket. This year could be special but the following year's team could be extra special if Larry stays.

Larry has a chance to do more for the VCU Brand then Eric did

One draft pick is a fluke anybody can put one out every 12 years or whatever

But two first round picks back to back...elevates us to a new level.

Larry can say VCU has arrived and we are here to stay

I agree with Mercury....Only I go one better...I think Larry and SKeen will be 1st round picks
by the end of this year.....We haven't that type of impact since Duncan, Lamb and Schlegel
were drafted in 1985 :D

Skeen may be the leading scorer in PPG by season's end but I don't see him going from 6.6 ppg to sitting out a season to first round pick after his first season at VCU. He may get a chance for the NBA after his Sr. season, but frankly he's got to be a bit off the radar for scouts now - - I guess when they are watching Larry they will see Skeen. I wonder how many guys transfer from stronger programs to lesser programs (that's what we are compared to Wake)and then go to the NBA...doesn't seem like the right path to me.
