This guy has been on several visits to VCU in the past year and was present at the game at the Stu on the 27th to watch the Rams beat down the Wolfpack. The 6'7 wing is one of the top juniors in the state of Georgia and is considering VCU along with several other schools. More info below...

E. Victor Nickerson is a guy that we have been after for sometime now and I believe has been mentioned here before. He is a 6'7, 200 pound wing out of Norcross High School in the Atlanta, GA area. He transferred over from the Padeia School where he played his sophomore year for more exposure on a more high-profile Norcross team that includes former Ram target (and son of VCU legend Rolando Lamb) Jeremy Lamb, who has committed to UConn, and 2-sport star Adrian Hubbard (who is looking more at football). Both of the aforementioned players are in the Class of 2010.

Nickerson has been on the VCU radar for sometime now. He is projected as a high-major prospect with loads of potential. He is the #39 SF prospect and an 89 on ESPN, he is yet to be ranked on Rivals, and is a 2-star on scout. Justin Young had him listed as one of the top 10 sophomores in the state of Georgia last year and stated that he is the best junior small forward in the state this year. He was one of the top underclassmen at the Georgia Hoops Fall Showcase last year:

When it comes to overall prospect value, there were few inside the gym that had the kind of potential that the 6-foot-6 wing possesses. He is an active and athletic presence on the wing. Nickerson has the tools to be a big-time scorer, rebounder and defender at his position. His ball-handling is solid and his game seems to be just scratching the surface of what kind of player he can eventually become. Nickerson will likely be recruited at the high-major level.

He was also named a Pangos All-South top 2011 performer last fall as well in some pretty elite company:

Last month, the 6-foot-7 combo forward was one of the best players at the Georgia Hoops Fall Showcase. At times at the Pangos camp he was one of the best in his age group. Nickerson has a lot of tools to work with and can be a dangerous player to defend because of his size on the wing and his active body at the power forward spot. He can score at the basket and he's developing his wing skills. When the perimeter skills come together, watch out. Nickerson could be one of the top risers in the Peach State this season.

After making the summer move from Paideia to Norcross, Nickerson didn’t have to worry about the slew of recruiters following him from downtown to the suburbs. Recently, the state’s top junior small forward picked up scholarship offers from Oklahoma State, Richmond, Jacksonville and North Florida.

The four join Virginia Commonwealth, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, Louisiana Tech, Delaware and Mercer with free rides.

While these schools have yet to offer, Nickerson said he is consistently hearing from Alabama, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Georgia, Florida State and Oklahoma.

Nickerson has been busy this fall, making stops at Alabama and Georgia Tech for football games. He had a trip schedule to Florida State, too. Nickerson will make a trip to Big 12 country this weekend, stopping by Oklahoma State and Oklahoma.

He’ll be joined by fellow Georgians Kentavious Caldwell (Greenville) and Tim Dixon (Columbus) at Oklahoma State for the Cowboys’s midnight madness festivities.

Despite the interest, Nickerson said he will wait things out before making any kind of decision regarding his collegiate future.

“It’s still open. I’m trying to get as many offers as I can. I want to visit more places and see how I feel there and whether or not I’m comfortable there,” Nickerson said.

2011 SF E. Victor Nickerson (6-7, 200)
2011, Norcross, Ga./Norcross
This lefty shows signs of being an elite member of his class, but he has yet to put everything together. Nickerson is a very smooth player who has excellent ball skills for someone his size while possessing a strong midrange jumper. Nickerson is best suited for an up-tempo game with an ability to handle with either hand in transition and finish with both. A good passer, Nickerson shows an excellent knowledge of the game. He is very capable of creating for a teammate and has a canny ability to find open guys for easy baskets. He is an average rebounder who knows how to get to balls on the offensive end of the floor. The only factors holding him back from being a high level player is his laid-back mentality and a need to add some muscle to his long frame. Once the young forward learns to play with a fire at all times, high-major schools will be visiting Norcross High School.

Thanks for the report db! Sounds like Nickerson would be a great get for VCU! Hope we can land him! Sounds like there are several other programs interested in him and we'll have our work cut out for us but as we have seen with others (Reco McCarter), we are capable of landing these guys.

db, in what i read he sounds similar to basabe from this year. would you agree with that assessment or is he more of a 3 who could play 4?

A guy I work with coaches an AAU team down in Atlanta and his team played against Nickerson's. From what I'm hearing is that he's an outstanding athlete who needs some refinement on his basketball skills. Definitely a good player though.
