Eric Atkins picks Notre Dame

Sounds like we may have gotten on some of these guys a little late due to our sudden needs and new coaching staff. May be why we are missing out. I wonder if with a little bit of time Coach Smart will begin to reel these guys in.

You are assuming Coach Smart recruited him versus Coach Grant. Maybe the kid decided VCU was not an option when Grant left. I don't think we can assume every kid that dosn't chose VCU since Coach Smart arrived was recruited by Coach Smart.

Correct, but with Grant not having any scholarships and Eblen signing so early I think it is a safe assumption to make.

Didn't Grant's dismissal of Kearse create another scholarship before he left for Alabama?

Wonder if this Eric Atkins is related to former Ram Eric Atkins.

VCU's Eric Atkins - originally from Orlando, Fla. - averaged 13 points in '91 and 11 points in '92, as one of Kendrick Warren's sidekicks.

Former Ram Eric Atkins (listed at 6-6, 220, but probably no more than 6-4) transferred to Ramland from San Jacinto, Tex., JC.

No slouch, he posted back-to-back double-doubles vs. Virginia Tech and Tennessee in December, '90.

These could be recruits that we were after last summer though. I have no idea but sometimes even if very little contact is made between a player and a school the names stay attached. It is hard to tell just based on these recruiting articles who was recruited by Grant and who was recruited by Smart. Also with it being so late in the game Coach Smart may have gone to talk to guys that had already more or less made up their mind before they even heard from VCU. Hopefully we will still be able to do something with our 2 remaining scollys, but I am not ready to judge Coach Smart's recruiting until he starts signing guys for 2010-11.

Keep in mind, the VCU reference was a recent quote from his AAU coach not from a recruiting site listing.
