They have been saying that we are going to have no viewers for our run through the final four, but then neglect the fact that we are getting pushed into the non-primetime slot for our game.

I really truly hope we not only prove them wrong in our playing, but as fans we can all prove them wrong by having a remarkably high rated final four. I plan on turning on as many TVs as possible, and assuring that every family member/friend watches all of the games regardless of who they cheer for (but making sure they watch VCU at the very least :P).

It is our job to play basketball and win the national championship. Not get television ratings. FESPN.

Well seeing as we aren't playing and some aren't able to go to the game, I would hope that we can at least get as many supporters to follow the games and in particular the VCU ones. I feel that the more followers the better.

I.E. While on vacation with my Aunt, I got her hooked on watching VCU games after she watched that close victory against Florida St (the school my sister went to for undergrad). She ended up texting me how great the win over Kansas was (even though she doesn't know much about basketball :P)

Oh yeah, that is not what I was saying. We want as many people as possible to see VCU basketball. That is great what has happened with your family, and the same has happened with mine as well. Just that I am not concerned that the ratings could have been higher if Kansas and Florida were in the Final Four instead of us and Butler.

They said the same thing about Butler making the final 4 last year and they had the best ratings in years! Just sour grapes from the pundits when who they picked doesn't make it. Any basketball fan will be watching and casual fans will be watching because both of us are there! Either team will drawl a huge viewing in the title game, but I hope we get what we missed by an inch last year. I'll still cheer for yall if it isn't us though!

Absolutely true... I've never been a huge "Mike and Mike" fan. I would listen to them when commercials are on the other sports station, but I knew Shaka was coming on this morning so I gave it a listen. They made a mockery of Coach Smart... it was uncomfortable to listen to. They seemed to know very little about him, asked redundant questions and were more concerned about a crappy song they put together for Coach Smart than anything else.

Booooo Mike and Mike.

I have chosen to boycott ESPN. I know it sounds stupid and extreme but it gives me personal satisfaction. ESPN filled a niche decades ago for sports fanatics everywhere. Now they have turned into something evil, IMO. ESPN is the NCAA's #1 customer paying 100's of millions for broadcast rights for BCS games. In return the NCAA makes darn sure that they provide ESPN will a marketable BCS product. All small budget programs need not apply...ESPN is not taking your application.

Just make sure every TV in Walmart and Target are on the tournament game and the numbers will go through the roof. ;)

ESPN and especially Mike and
Mike make me want to puke. I understand Ohio State, Duke, Pitt, UNC and Kansas aren't playing. Thats because they LOST! When you lose in a tournament you are out. It kills me the lack of respect everyone has for the kids, coaches and fans in this tourny. What BS!

Go Rams!

Thats why last year's championship game of Duke and Butler was the most watched college basketball game this century?

Time slot doesn't matter. I like to think of it like the first Ultimate Fighter finale with Bonner and Griffin, people were literally calling eachother up mid fight telling their friends turn the channel to Spike, this fight is nuts. Play a good game and let the chips fall where they may, if people miss it, its their loss.

Time slot definitely matters for the viewers who are not fans of the schools. Do you really think a 6pm game gets as many viewers as an 8pm game? They give that later time slot to the more popular programs for a reason.

Now with that being said, it won't effect things too much and overall it doesn't matter at all since our guys will play well regardless of who is watching. I just like to get as many people to watch, and then listen to people go "oh my god i never expected the ratings to be this good! What a game!" lol
