In today's RTD:

http://www2.timesdispatch.com/rtd/news/ ... 02/323674/

Both campuses going to see significant changes. Prep work for the new medical tower is going to start in the spring with the demoliton of the old A D Williams building. The Monroe campus will soon see a new academic building and dorms. Also, it was recently announced the new parking decks will be going in along Belvidere. We have come a long way since Bear Hall and Schafer Court. I miss those 5 PM concerts. :D

The ability to increase the number of medical students by a third (750 to 1000) is amazing. The new 459 bed, residence hall on Grace Street further strengthens our movement from primarily a commuter university to a residential university. This article is the first time I have heard that we have a vision of making Grace Street "our college street." Interesting concept. Anybody have any details?

Just drove by the old Ukrop's building last night. Looks great, a great improvement from the bum filled grocery store from 2 years ago.

You think it was like that two years ago...you should have seen it when it was Community Pride. That bus stop on Grace St. was wild. Couldn't go to that 7-11 behind the village without someone asking you for money. That area has changed quite a bit

I always ask people for money.

I wish VCU would build up. I understand there is a delicate balance between the need for new modern building and the need for parking. But, I feel like we would be better utilizing our limited space if we built on top of the parking decks.

I'll be sad to see that building at 109 N. Harrison go. Always thought that was a neat little building. But sounds like they are making some much need expansions for the university (See 'Chill, I can be for demolition sometimes ;) ) In fact, I see no issue with any of the buildings being torn down. I'm glad they are getting rid of A.D. Williams and not The West Hospital.

***Edit*** Just noticed that 109 N. Harrison is not the building I thought it was. PLEASE, tear down 109 N Harrison, ha. I was thinking of 101 N. Harrison, The Greeting/Welcome Center. That place stays, awesome.
