Larry Sanders, 6-10, Junior, VCU
Once an unknown, Sanders has worked hard to put himself on the radar of NBA teams because of a combination of NBA traits like excellent athleticism, quickness and length, a big ceiling for improvement and a solid basketball IQ -- especially considering that he arrived at VCU with little experience.

While Sanders has not been the Shaquille O'Neal of the CAA, he has dominated enough that the next step in his development really must come at the NBA level. And that improvement will come as he increases his strength and adds muscle to a lanky 205-pound frame.

At this point, comparisons to Theo Ratliff (at least the version that was drafted out of Wyoming 14 years ago) are fair, but to think Sanders will have the same career is asking an awful lot. A team in the second half of the first round will be willing to roll the dice and take that chance, though.

Might be time for a Larry Sanders NBA D-League thread.
Fixed it for you.

Sadly you could be right, but as long as it is all in one well organized thread. That is all we can control at this point.

A year in the NBDL with a first round contract will do more for Larry than another year at VCU would.

Yeah, but it won't do any good for VCU. I am not a fan of any of the D-League teams.

Do NBA teams draft first rounders to send them to the DLeague?

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/basketba ... 6233_x.htm

The Memphis Grizzlies on Thursday assigned rookie center Hasheem Thabeet to the Dakota Wizards of the NBA Development League on Thursday.

A 7-foot-3 Thabeet, the second overall pick last year, averaged 2.5 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 50 games. The former Connecticut player had a career-best 10 points on Jan. 2 at Phoenix.

...

The 23-year-old Thabeet will be the highest drafted player to play in the NBA's minor league. Portland's Martell Webster, the No. 6 pick in the 2005 draft, held that distinction. He played eight games for the Fort Worth Flyers in the D-League in 2005-06.

Yeah. But he was projected to start. Amazing was selected to play bench minutes not DLeague assignation.

Agreed, but i think teams who are interested in Larry, know he has a long way to go. Larry is being drafted more on potential in the future. His talent is a lot more raw than where Eric was when he finished at VCU.

a year from now he will still be getting drafted 100% on potential

I'm not arguing that fact either.
